Hi Ladies,

Can you tell me how long you had to stay in hospital for after c section? My baby is due 5th July and will be born via section but my anxiety is through the roof to be leaving my son overnight. TIA

I had an emcs middle of the night sat/sun and went home Tuesday afternoon. Would have been quicker had it not been for high blood pressure. I think they really wanted me to stay in tor longer but would have just discharged myself if they hadn't let me out as the postnatal ward was awful!

@SamT210 the consultant read my notes from my first and just said ‘we aren’t chancing that again’ and booked my elective at 12 weeks and I let the staff know that I wanted be out as soon as possible and they were brilliant at facilitating that! I hope you have a great experience like I did, it was very healing after what I went through the first time. Good luck I hope everything goes well Smile

I had section at 5ish didn't get on the ward until after 8 and was told next day at 10am I would be going home at lunchtime. I told them i wasn't after major surgery with a toddler at home and a new born that wasn't feeding right. After a few days finally got a nurse that could spot a tongue tie.

Had baby last March in start of lockdown. Had her at 9.11am Monday and was home at 12.45pm the Tuesday

Pre pandemic my hospital has a blanket rule of 2 nights.
I'm expecting second baby in 8 weeks and have been told it's still the same 2 nights minimum

Nemostripes · 06/02/2021 22:29

Over a week for me, but I had an EMCS under general anaesthetic and was kept sedated for a while, had to have several blood transfusions, had kidney problems and fever etc. so was really very poorly and wasn't going anywhere fast!

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 06/02/2021 22:39

First - in 6am Monday, out 2pm Tuesday

Second - in 6am Wednesday, out 3pm Thursday

Oh also both were ELCS, first pre-Covid and second during

Check if your hospital do enhanced recovery. I was discharged following a delivery at 4pm the next day at 10am. I was however in from 7am the day of delivery...

hopeful3yr · 06/02/2021 22:41

Also was my second, bottlefed and no issues

WeeM · 06/02/2021 22:45

Emcs and I was 3 nights including the one I gave birth. I asked to get home and was sat there until 9pm to get discharged Confused

Redruby2020 · 06/02/2021 23:11

Hi, had emergency c section on the Wed night was allowed to go on the Friday, though it had got late and so I could of stayed until the following day, but feared with all the admin and the staff going back and forth, that the discharge would be delayed again, so we actually left at around midnight! So not what I wanted and if I had my time again I would do it differently, in many ways.

Tink2007 · 08/02/2021 21:58

I had a category 1 emergency c-section in September; she was born at 23:39 and I was back home by 20:00 the next day. I think there were 17 hours between my section and being back at home on my sofa.

3 nights. Stay for the pain relief (they wouldn’t send me home with the strong stuff)

Northernexile · 08/02/2021 22:27

Three sections, all in last nine years, first 2 I was in one night for induction and then 2 nights post section, and third I was in 2 nights following planned section. I wasn't in great shape after any of them really and none of my babies fed well at the start. I hated the post-natal ward and desperately wanted out, but the two night stay was probably sensible as I could at least stand without feeling faint by the time I left. I don't think my hospital let anyone out one night post section though either.
