Hi,
Its been 4 weeks since I have given birth, I had a slight tear (didn't require stitches) although things are feeling better it still feels sensitive/slight sore where I assume my tear is.
I was advised by midwives when I asked NOT to have salt baths and to have normal baths only which I have been doing pretty much everyday since giving birth however I have been thinking about having a salt bath once a day to try and help speed up the healing?
Does anyone know the reason why midwives are advising not to have salt baths? (I should have asked at the time) has salt baths helped anyone speed up recovery? I also been having pain in my clitoral area which I have been advised its most likely trauma from the catheter I had (I only had this to allow me to go for a wee once) this is easing but was also hoping salt bath might help this?

Absolutely no! Salt will make it worse. There's a reason why they advise against it. You are literally rubbing salt in your wounds. Your downstairs has gone through enough giving birth, let it heal in its own time.

No idea on salts but if you have the spare money I purchased a spray call sprits for bits for my labour bag a few years ago which is supposed to help.

I used to bathe in lavender and tea tree oils, my midwife advised it and said not to do salt baths
