How long were you labours second time around?

With my first my labour was 3.5 hours with 9 minutes of pushing and baby was back which I was told may have slowed things down! I'm currently pregnant with my second and a bit worried that things may happen super fast this time. Has anyone been through similar experiences? How fast everyone's second labours?

Hi Op,

With my first baby it was 8 hours from beginning to end.

Second baby, it was 45 minutes (I got to the hospital with minutes to spare), literally crawled onto the bed, two pushes and she was out.

LemonBreeland · 15/01/2021 15:59

First was 4.5 hours. Second was 1 hr 45, this was 45 minutes. 2 and 3 were home births as I knew getting to be hospital would be tricky.

Same as you OP, my first was back to back but start to finish my labour was 6.5 hours so I don't think it slowed things down too much.

Second labour was 4 hours from first twinge to baby being born. I was told to head to the hospital as soon as contractions started rather than waiting for them to be x minutes apart, since my first labour had been quick.

Weirdly my second was also back to back, it must just be how my body likes to make babies. It didn't cause any problems either time.

My first was 5hr and I was terrified that my second would be so quick- arrived at the hospital already 5cm thought it would still be so quick, then it stopped. Babies head blocked by waters, so by the time they figured this, burst them, I couldn’t cope and had an epidural it was overall 15hrs. You never know what fun child birth will throw at you!

That's quick for a first labour! Mine was 24hrs (4hrs pushing before forceps).

Second - labour 4hrs from start to finish, 20mins in "active labour", two pushes.

My first was 3 hours, 2nd was 45 minutes. I wasn’t allowed a home birth as high risk and spent a lot of time concerned I wouldn’t make it to hospital in time. Waters ended up going at 32 weeks and I was in hospital anyway when I went into labour so didn’t have to rush down.

Haven't had a second DC but Labour with DD was around 3 hours and then 2 hours of pushing because she was stuck but midwife told me that if I have any more babies then I need to make sure I tell midwives that I Labour really quickly

JBOH2020 · 15/01/2021 16:48

First 2 and half hours. Second 6 hours, but I was induced for second and don't believe he was ready to come out

dinosaur17 · 15/01/2021 18:31

1DS was 39 hours, ended up with an assisted delivery.
2DD was about 3 hours. Midwife came at 4:30pm gave me a sweep, think I had the first twinge at 5:30pm and she was out before 9. We got to the hospital about 7 and I’m sure she would have been out in 2 hours if I hadn’t be repeatedly told to stop pushing.
DS3 due in a few weeks and I’m not up for a home birth but the other children at home and 40 min trip to the hospital is stressing me out a bit! X

tatutata · 15/01/2021 18:32

First was B2B and about 16 hours on delivery ward. Second 1 hour. Third 15 minutes.

tatutata · 15/01/2021 18:35

@dinosaur17 you'll have time. I spent forever at home getting nowhere - plan was home birth but it was really my DHs plan and turns out my body really, really wanted a hospital. I arrived at 5cm, not really in imminent danger of giving birth, and as above she was born 15 mins later... Your brain usually holds out until you're in the place you feel safe.

PlinkPlink · 15/01/2021 18:36

First was 6 hours, 5 minutes pushing.
8lb 5

Second was 2 hours 30. 10 minutes pushing. Back to back too.
9lb 15

dinosaur17 · 15/01/2021 18:59

@tatutata ❤️ Hopefully he’ll wait. I said to DH if he decides it’s time in on the way then we’ll just have to get the car cleaned 😂
I’m aiming for MLBU as DD was a waterbirth and I’d quite happily have 10 children if I knew all births were like hers!

First just under 3 hours and a handful of pushes. Second just under an hour and a handful of pushes.
