Elective C Section dates

Provisionally agreed c section following traumatic birth and EMCS last time & a couple of other risk factors. I know they do them between 39-40 but has anyone requested closer to 40? Most people I know have say 39+2/3 but I’d be happier leaving baby in a bit longer if I could. I’d ideally just wait to go into labour so I know baby is ready then have the c section rather than book one but I know that’s not possible.

I had dd1 booked in and delivered by ELCS at 39 + 5 and dd2 at 39 + 2. I was told it had to be before 40 weeks and ideally anytime from 39 weeks.

@Meredusoleil oh ok sounds like it really varies then. Hopefully they’ll let me have it as close to 40 as they see as ok.

I requested for my cs to be as close to due date as possible. My hospital were very accomodating with this and sent me through my date as 39+6... DD on the other hand had other ideas and I went into natural labour at home on 39+5!

@DropsofJupiterinherhair I’m glad they were accommodating even though baby had other ideas! Did they just take you in for a section that day? X

Mine said it had to be 39 weeks to avoid another EMCS. I got them to agree to 39+2 in the end. Would have preferred to deliver on my due date but heigh-ho...

I wanted to leave it as long as possible but they wanted 39 weeks. I was given 39+1 as the date. Dd arrived at 38+5 without the cs. They did offer a few times after I arrived at the labour ward, just to check I was sure.

Yep it just ended up being classed as another emergency c section rather than elective, although it was nothing like my first emcs... So calm, a completely different experience, and only what I can imagine my elective the next day would have been like anyway! Good luck, hope you get the date you want. X

The date I have been given is the day of the week after 39 weeks which the consultant I am under does C Sections. It happens to be 39+4 and I didn't seem to get any say otherwise.

Meredusoleil · 02/01/2021 09:34

I was lucky enough to be given a choice of any week day. And it was 2 different hospitals too! Good luck. I wouldn't want to leave it too close to your due date, in case you go into labour spontaneously. With Dd2 I nearly thought I might not make it 😐

I was booked in for a section on my due date but went into labour 5 days early. I was given the section within an hour of arriving at hospital.
