Labour before ELCS?

Booked in for ELCS at 39+1 (just over 3 weeks to go)

I'm wondering how many people went into labour before their planned CS?

2nd baby and have gestational diabetes too.

Did you go into labour before booked section and at what gestation? X

@WalkingMeAway what happened when you went into labour? Did you still have a caesarean and how long between labour starting and birth? X

ELCS planned for 40+5, went into labour at 40+2 but didn't progress quickly enough after waters breaking so had CS at 40+3 after 24 hours of labour.

It was a cross between an EMCS as it needed to happen fairly quickly but still kind of ELCS as there was no danger or risk for either of us unlike my first EMCS.

@jess348 my waters broke at around 6am, I got to the hospital at around 8am. I was monitored for a while as ELCS was for breech and he had started to turn. They offered me the choice to wait and see or go straight for the C section. I chose the latter and he was born at 11.16am!

Oh yes it was recorded as a EMCS but it really wasn’t an emergency situation.

Thank you everyone - useful to know!

I went into labour two days before my ELCS. I was 39+2 at the time. They asked me to come in immediately for monitoring (was about 10pm). They hooked me up to continuous monitoring and asked me if I ‘wanted to give it a go’ (no thanks! Previous EMCS at 10cm then a VBAC with third degree tear).

In the end the labour didn’t progress anyway so they did an EMCS the following afternoon (had to wait aaages as the ELCS list was full and there were more pressing emergencies that kept going ahead!)

Yes with both DC2 and DC3. ELCS was booked for 37 weeks to try to prevent it happening with DC4.

I had an elective at 39 weeks 1 day :) baby daughter had no signs of showing beforehand so all went to plan. She is my first child.

Twice!
DC3 - ELCS booked for 39wks, went into labour at 38+2
DC4 - ELCS booked for 38wks, went into labour at 37+1
Had EMCS fairly soon after I got to hospital in both cases due to foetal distress.

Recently had my baby! ELCS booked for 39+4, went into Labour 39+3 and had her early hours on the morning my ELCS was due 😳

FlyPiggy · 05/01/2021 21:01

ELCS booked for 40+0 (maternal choice)
Waters broke and labour started 39+2
Had an 'emergency' section within an hour of arriving at hospital

I have such a fear of this happening. My son was born quite fast (four hour labour from start to finish) so if I go into labour before my c-section date I can’t see me being able to have a c-section in time.
