Hey guys.

Just been diagnosed with GD (on Xmas eve too... merry Xmas to me I guess haha!)

Just curious to see, if you had GD, how big was your little one when born?

I had GD with both my pregnancies. DD was 7lb 13oz and DS was 8lb 5oz.

My GD was well controlled, although I needed insulin with DS.

My sister had my first niece around 7lb, and second around 6lb. My mum had me 9lb 2, but this was 30 years ago. My sister was looking out for it because of the family history and do it was detected and controlled early on.

I had GD diagnosed at 28 weeks just before Christmas like you. Managed it really well and even lost weight carrying him as it made me behave myself. Was reluctantly induced at 39 weeks and he weighed 6lb 6oz after predicting he'd be around the 9lb mark. Hes still a dinky boy now, almost 2 and still in 12 to 18 month old clothes.

GD isn't all about having a big baby, there's so much more to it and the complications of not managing your blood sugar has on baby.

There's a great group on Facebook for help with GD, I used it loads x

I had GD with first, but not second pregnancy. First was 7 lbs 3 ounces, second was 7 lbs 5 ounces. It was well controlled through diet and exercise. I was also diagnosed just before Christmas and didn't get the test strips for at least two weeks and I was very sensitive to all carbs so had at least two weeks when my numbers were way too high. I had no other complications and I'm an older mum. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck.

Diagnosed at 24 weeks, just before Easter 2028z Numbers controlled well with diet and lost weight but ended up on insulin cos they where concerned with the size of his tummy. Ended up being 7lb 9.5oz. My smallest baby and didn’t have gd with either of the other two.

DD was 7lb 7 and born a week early . Luckily I was able to control mine with diet and metformin.

HalfBloodPrince · 24/12/2020 21:48

I had gestational diabetes, controlled by diet. DS was 6lb 5 Smile

pinknsparkly · 24/12/2020 21:54

My little girl was 6lb 14oz. Born at 40+1 (induced due to GD). I was diagnosed at 20 weeks and remained diet controlled for the whole pregnancy.

Barnbop2 · 24/12/2020 22:10

I had GD with my youngest and out of all my three babies he weighed the least, at 7lb 2oz. My readings were always controlled and I stuck to eating quite healthily.

I was never expecting small babies anyway because everyone in both sides of the family are very tall. DD now 5 is off the scale for height but long and skinny & DS now 2 is growing just the same
AngeloMysterioso · 27/12/2020 22:07

My boy was bang average the whole way through my pregnancy, 7lbs 12oz at birth. I barely had GD anyway to be honest (the cutoff for a positive result after GTT was 7.7, I was 7.8) so it was diet controlled the whole way through. His blood sugar was fine after birth as well.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 22:48

Diagnosed at 29w, induced at 38w. Baby was 5lb 12oz Shock

Hey all, thank you so much for your responses. It's been really reassuring to see not everyone has had a big baby, when I told people I had GD they all acted terrified for me saying I'd have a 10+lb baby and I think it just scared me haha! My GD is so far really well controlled (although haven't been testing too long yet) so I'm hoping that will help with any issues!
