I've to get a prescription for these tablets tomorrow to help with my heavy periods
I was just wanting to know peoples experiences
The doctor said it should shorten my periods too

Will the bleeding start again once the tablets are done
How did they effect your period
I've seen online some people saying it completely stopped there period can this happen where does the blood go

Hoping these work as have a night away booked next week and would love my period to be gone

All help be great thanks

I'm on tranexamic two years. It does lighten my flow but still get clots. It also makes é feel dizzy and out of sorts. I take 6 tablets a day for the first three days of my period. There has been some months that I have not taken it and period would be bad. I can't drink alcohol either when I'm on the medication. It's only seen as a short term solution. Ive a pelvic scan on January and if nothing shows up my GP has recommend the mirena coil. I have a prescription for this month so stop my period as I'm due on Christmas Day.

Unfortunately did nothing for me apart from make me sick and dizzy. The doctor suggested the coil instead.

Do they make your period shorter or do they stop it I'm worried if I take them once I stop the period will come back

Hi @Lily189 I've been on these since my periods returned after birth... I usually only have to take them on the heaviest day of my period, then the other 4 days are manageable (like before I gave birth) . It hasn't shortened my period or stopped it, just used to manage my most heavy days . Before this I could barely leave the house it was so bad!

I took tranexemic acid for about a year from being about 6m PP. I then went on the combined pill and then been back on the tranexemic acid for about 5mnths now again since coming off the pill. I have very heavy and long periods, no 'medical' explanation for them. I usually take 3 doses a day on days 2-4. It just makes the bleeding light enough for it to be manageable, otherwise I would bleed through a super tampon in an hour. Which isn't practical for daily living either at work or whilst caring for my toddler. Also the heavy periods made me feel weak and have me iron deficiency too so these tablets lessen those too. It doesn't stop your period completely or make it shorter, I bleed for 7-10 days and it hasn't changed that.
