When you say 'Big Pants'.....

....how big do you mean? I mean, do you need a bigger size than you normally take, or ones that come up to your nipples, or both?? I'm probably going to have to have a c-section and the Big Pants, along with the arnica and the peppermint tea, seem to be the common theme. Can anyone point me to particularly good Big Pants? Or ones to avoid?
Thanks in advance...

did someone call...?!

big pants - nice comfy ones that are not going to creep up any erm, crevices ...
Don't think the next size up are required -

Moomin · 23/10/2007 09:52

The belly-huggers you can buy from M&S for about £6 for 5. Don't buy the disposable pants - they cut right into your scar. Buy the M&S ones in black then if they get ruined you can throw them away later. A size up from normal should be plenty.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 23/10/2007 09:52

I bought some cheepo granny knickers from Asda, didn't feel so guilty throwing them when they were no longer required.

Bluestocking · 23/10/2007 09:56

My mum, who's a size larger than me, passed on some of her old, saggy, well-washed ones on to me. They were very comfy and I could throw them with a clear conscience!

Gingerbear · 23/10/2007 09:57

My big pants were cheap black from Matalan and 2 sizes bigger than I normally have. (The ones that come up to just under your boobs!)

moocowme · 23/10/2007 10:05

i bought a size bigger from primark in black. they work well. don't forget that your stomach does not go down instantly after birth. it takes a few weeks.

fedupwasherwoman · 23/10/2007 11:00

Snap - cheap, black and from matalan, 2 sizes bigger than my usual size to allow for the fact that your pregnancy bulge doesn't go down overnight.

I've heard them referred to as "kidney warmers".

MrsTittleMouse · 23/10/2007 12:24

Me too! M and S black cotton up-to-the-armpits jobs in 2 sizes bigger than normal. Utterly hideous and unsexy, but comfy and didn't show the blood. It was wonderful when I finally shrank down enough to pack them away to the roof.

Chaotica · 23/10/2007 13:09

Maybe I'm just awkward, but I actually found small pants (which went below the scar) more comfortable... (Was trying to avoid the cs, so avoided all pants planning too.) Then I could get away with long t-shirt or stretchy skirt over scar (and bump)

Twitsthatgobumpinthenight · 23/10/2007 13:11

i also found under the bump more comfortable, and if your sts/mts have wings they won't move. [much]

Fingerbobs · 23/10/2007 13:26

Thank you v. much - knew that there would be a fount of knowledge on MN!

I also bought M&S apple catchers in a size up.... am still wearing them 3 weeks on because v comfy over the scar...

Scarily DH admitted last night to finding them "strangely alluring in a Dita von Teese kind of way" (my stomach has gone down quite nicely although I'm hardly of corseted proportions yet)

Should I be worried?

Eaglebird · 26/10/2007 18:19

Pendulum, 'apple-catchers' - LOL!
Think I'll have to buy a pack of M&S bellywarmers. They'll have the added advantage as acting as a form of contraception

wheelybug · 26/10/2007 18:23

The day after my section my community midwife who had done my antenatal appointments stopped me in the corridors at the hospital. She asked what pants I was wearing and then pulled my trousers out to look . She then told my Mum, who happened to be visiting, to go into town and buy me M&S up to the armpit ones...

moocowme · 26/10/2007 19:03

the closer they come to your boobs the better. mine showed over the top of my maternity jeans (only things i could fit into imediately post CS) but really a big top and no one noticed, not that it was a priority how i looked at that stage. as long as i managed to clean my teeth occasionaly it was fine.
