I'm due to be induced at 38 weeks due to pre eclampsia.
I am booked for 23rd December which is infact my birthday!
I really moan about my birthday as by 23rd everyone is already on the xmas vibe and travelling, with families, works do's, restaurants have xmas menus etc.
I have been told that once induced it can take up to 3 days for baby to arrive so inturn could make it worse and be born on xmas day or boxing day. I have asked to move the day sooner which they won't do but I can move it later say 26th/27th, if I do this I can still have xmas day as planned and baby may even arrive in 2021 as it should have done.
My bloody pressure is being monitored and at present quite good, ofcourse if this changes I won't be picky for dates, I'll just do whats best for baby
What would you do?

Can they not induce you at 37 weeks?

ILoveYoga · 13/12/2020 11:14

Frankly any birthday that is 2 weeks either side of Xmas is always going to get lumped in with Xmas. I have this and so do two of my children. I have always made it a point to have birthday presents and parties for my two children as I’d missed out growing up

It is far more important for your health and your child’s health to be born quickly, then do so.

I have had to be induced twice. First time was pre eclampsia and that took two full days (broke water and Pitocin). Second time was about 12 hours.

I'd go for the later date if that's safe for both of you and possible. Before Christmas everyone is busy and preoccupied and Boxing Day is part of Xmas. Towards New Year people are more likely to be home to have a celebration.
My daughter was due mid January, but as I'd had a premature baby before I was convinced she'd be early too and arrive over Xmas. In the end she came at 39 weeks.
Hope all goes smoothly.

Do whatever is the safest option. If they say 23rd then do that.

Worrying to see you thinking about something so irrelevant when your baby’s life is at risk

Mammyofasuperbaby · 14/12/2020 10:23

@Corner13, have you thought that she is thinking about something trivial because her baby is at risk. Having been in that situation twice i can tell you that it is a normal coping mechanism.
Your comment isnt kind or helpful for a mother in such a worrying time

bruffin · 14/12/2020 12:15

Agree Mammyofasuperbaby
I was in OPs position for 6 weeks with PE and in hospital with a lady who lost her baby while we were there, I really dont think there is anything wrong with OP thinking of practical things to stop herself worrying about what could happen

NotYourReindeer · 14/12/2020 12:30

I had an elective section with my first and was given the following dates to chose from: 23rd or 24th Dec. I went for 23rd so she could have a slightly separate birthday to Christmas.

Crazyone84 · 14/12/2020 16:52

I have asked to be induced sooner but as blood pressure and wellness of both me and baby is steady they would rather leave it later.
Thank you for the ridiculous comments about not caring for babies well being.....yes I would much prefer to have a convenient date than a well and alive baby!! I really don't think so! If you had read my post fully you would have seen I mentioned all to do with babies health.
As it stands we are both OK and steady so I have an option, this may change and if it does then ofcourse what will be.

It’s now known that babies’ brains are still developing at 37 weeks and even at 38 weeks. Gastric system still developing too. For these reasons I would go as long as possible IF your pre eclampsia is being monitored very frequently.

bruffin · 14/12/2020 17:20

I got to 38 weeks but they still didnt induce me until my BP sky rocketed again and i got protein in my urine which was a few days later
