At what point do they do them?

Am 40(+4) and v fed up.. have an appointment with consultant on Tuesday - can they do them or would it be the midwife?

I think it depends on where you live but I got mine at 41 weeks exactly.

Lulumama · 21/10/2007 14:55

you can have one at 41 weeks.. MW or consult. can do them

it will start you off if you would have gone into labour within the next 24 - 48 hours.. lots of sex this weekend ! that helps

BJB21 · 21/10/2007 14:56

midwives can do them and should definitetly be offered one by term plus ten. vary as when midwives do them but one now might help. ask for one tues if they dont offer

Oh and mine was with mw but I never saw a consultant so not sure about that part, sorry.

I need something to kickstart (tried all the usual!!) I have terrible memories of my 1st birth dd (8 yrs ago) ended up going over 2 weeks, failed induction and horrible emergency C....

2nd birth (ds)5 years ago very different - her was on time, very quick at home..

Just want things to get going now.
Will see what consultant says on Tuesday.

Unicorn, with hindsight I wouldn't bother if it was me.

Have you seen the Natural Induction options?

Be prepared that you could be offered a sweep but they may be unable to reach cervix to do it. Try not to be too disheartened, it just means baby is not ready to be born at that minute...

Stay strong

I had one with DS2 at term plus 10 days. I was already starting to have very slight contractions (thought I had a water infection!). It hurt so much but maybe because things were starting to happen? (Plus I'm a wimp LOL). My contractions immediatly got stronger, longer and more frequent. I was in the labour ward about 2 hours after but then went on to labour for 3 days until DS2 was born. Having said that I am sure my cervix was having problems dilating for some reason. Good luck if you have one, I'm sure everyone has a different experience.
