Hi everyone :) I'm due on Monday 30th with my first baby ( a girl!)and I'm just wondering how many first time mums went into labour on their due date? I know the date I ovulated and my due date seems pretty accurate but then again who knows plus babies seem to come when they want! I have been having quite a bit of period type cramps and lower back pains etc plus shooting pains down my groin area/legs but apart from that no other signs of labour and it feels like it's never going to happen...

I went into labour at 36+5 and Dd was born 36+6.

Pretty much everyone on my maternal side of the family had their babies on their due date so I do wonder if genetics plays a part at all? I was just glad to not go over tbh Smile

Good luck! Hope you have newborn snuggles soon and everything goes smoothly.

TeddyIsaHe · 27/11/2020 13:14

I mean 39+5 and 39+6 🙄

My first labour took a long time so I went into labour the day before but gave birth on my due date. I’m the only person I know, I don’t think they’re spot on very often.

I didn’t feel like I was going to have a baby until I lost my plug and my contractions started. With my second I was having period type pains for 2 weeks before I went into labour so that might be a good sign your body is getting prepared.

I was induced with ds1 (induction started lunchtime at 42 weeks exactly with a pessary insertion, went into labour in early hours of the next day and had him very soon after that). But everyone in my mum's family goes 'over' the EDD.

My SIL had her first baby on the EDD, my friend L had her first baby on the EDD and was born on the EDD herself, so it does happen. I wonder what the stats say for France because IIRC they set the EDD at 41 weeks rather than 40?

ClaireCanale123 · 27/11/2020 13:18

@teddyIsaHe My mum had all her children including me pretty much on time ( i think i was only 3 days late) and one of my sisters was early and the other showed up on her due date! So hopefully genetics do play apart but who knows :/ I guess I will find out hahah

I went into labour at 40+1 according to 12 week scan and gave birth at 40+2. According to my ovulation date, I went into labour on my due date and gave birth at 40+1.

ClaireCanale123 · 29/11/2020 21:36

@Chanel05 thank you for your reply :) pretty close though!! My due date is tomorrow and frankly I feel like it’s just never going to actually happen 😫🙈 such a weird feeling...first time so I’m not really sure what to expect. Was that your first pregnancy as well? 😬😬 did you have any ‘warning signs’ ?

OP posts:
Chanel05 · 29/11/2020 21:40

@ClaireCanale123 Absolutely no warning signs really. Though I did get a horrendous pile the day before I went into labour. Next morning I woke up to a contraction. I think dd had made a move!

Get some rest!! Labour can be incredibly long (I was in labour for 33 hours!) and you don't get to rest once the baby is here, it's all systems go.

ClaireCanale123 · 29/11/2020 22:09

@Chanel05 yes I’ll definitely try and get some rest and just relax although it’s like mental torture not knowing when it’s actually going to happen hahaha but I’m going to try and enjoy these last days of total chill out time.

I'm due tomorrow so also playing the waiting game! I recently learnt though that different countries have different due dates, in some it's 41 weeks and others even 42 so I'm not holding out much hope for a 40 week delivery...

ClaireCanale123 · 01/12/2020 12:45

@stargazer87 oh we are due date buddies😂 no baby for me yet though what about you? I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and I think they will offer me a sweep but from what I understand you can’t get one unless you’re already dilated anyway. I’m dreading hearing my cervix is still too high and hard 😫 the waiting game is so annoying isn’t ...making me anxious

I have had 4 babies and currently pregnant with number 5.
None if my children came on their due date. But interestingly I did.

My 1st was 11 days late.
My 2nd was 3 weeks early.
My 3rd was a week early.
My 4th was 4 days late.

Hoping this little one can be born over the end of term Christmas break so wont have to worry about childcare and them missing time off school.

Went into Labour 11 days over due date. (First baby) No signs at all - had first contraction out of nowhere and baby born 8 hours later. Although, I was at 2cm for two weeks and baby's head was pretty much engaged at 32 weeks. I also had two sweeps. One at 40+2 and another at 40+9 :)
