C - section baby mucus

Hi,

I had my little boy at 37 + 1 weeks via a c - section.

At the time of his birth he was put on antibiotics for a couple of days as he was making strange noises when he breathed. They did blood cultures and infection marker tests oh him which all came back clear and we were allowed home.

At 1 week old my husband called me down because he was making strange almost cough like noises and his breath was a bit raspy. We took him to the GP who thoroughly checked him over and suggested it was mucus that hadn't yet cleared from his birth.

The GP prescribed a saline solution to use but my husband is a bit unsure about this.

Has anyone else had this with their c-section baby? What did you do? How long did it take to clear?

I get really panicked when his breathing gets like this - which is mainly at night so assume it's a build up during the day when he is sleeping.

Thanks

Babies born vaginally get the mucus squeezed out of their lungs by contractions. C section babies don’t. My baby brought up tons of fluid from his lungs for a couple of days after he was born. I’d be worried if he was still struggling to breathe a week later. I’m not a GP but I don’t see how saline can help when the problem is inside the baby’s lungs?

Symptoms sound similar to reflux as well.
