Estimated weights accurate or not?

I'm just curious and trying to think of something else (just for fun) to keep my mind off constantly looking for labour signs.

I was told last week my baby is about 6lb 10oz minus 10% and I'm being induced in 2 days so probably looking at the 7 1/2-8lb mark.
Just wondered if anyone else had accurate guesses or if they were completely wrong and how many weeks gestation you had your babies?
TIA

Friend of mine had a planned CS as the doctor was so concerned she was going to have a teen-pound baby.

He was six pounds.

tenlittlecygnets · 19/11/2020 11:51

Ten, not teen!🙄

LRHRN · 19/11/2020 12:14

@tenlittlecygnets wow that's a huge difference. I bet she was shocked

Mine was estimated 5lb 6oz and 3 days later was born 5lb 3oz, so not miles off.

notasillysausage · 19/11/2020 12:18

Estimated 4lb6oz born 5 days later at 4lbs 13oz. Pretty accurate here.

LRHRN · 19/11/2020 12:45

Oh wow so some can be pretty bang on then 😊

Totally inaccurate for me had a 9lb4oz baby who they said would be 7lb.
Dt were both over 6lb but was told 5lb each max.
These were both within days of birth.

BikeRunSki · 19/11/2020 12:47

4 days before my 7lb 10oz baby was born, MW said he'd be at least 10lb!

LBB2020 · 19/11/2020 17:57

Mine was estimated 6lb9oz born a few days later weighing 7lb5oz

BurningBenches · 19/11/2020 18:06

DS was estimated to be just under 9lb at 37wks growth scan. He was induced at 40wks and weighed 9lb5. So was more likely to have been around 8lb at 37wks. So about 1lb out.

LRHRN · 20/11/2020 09:09

All so different then 😬 I'll get to find out tomorrow/Sunday so will see how accurate the prediction was

OP posts:
theginge · 20/11/2020 09:19

Baby was predicted to be 12lb 2oz from a scan done at 40+1 (I was refused induction due to the margin for error on scans and previous pregnancies). My midwife dismissed this the following day and said a maximum of 8lbs as it felt like I was mostly carrying fluid. I had two previous large babies who far exceeded 8lbs so wasn't convinced. Baby was born 2 days later weighing 10lb 11oz!!

LRHRN · 20/11/2020 09:26

@theginge wow a decent size but 2lb out is a lot. Suppose it all depends on baby's length too. I think my girl is going to be weighty but she's very long like my other 2, I'm 5ft 10 and my husband is 6ft 4 so she's going to be tall no doubt.
My other 2 looked like skinned rabbits 😂 just really long and skinny

No one has ever gave me an estimated birth weight. My first was 8lb 8oz second was 10lbs. Maybe they just didn't want to scare me 🤣. Dreading what this third one will be.

Babyshine2020 · 20/11/2020 09:31

Estates 8lb 2 at 40 weeks, born 7lb 12 dead on 39 weeks so not that far out

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/11/2020 09:31

They have predicted she is big though, want me to have a sugar test but its because we are tall too. Same as you I'm 5ft10 and dp is 6ft 3

SockQueen · 20/11/2020 10:00

DS2 was predicted 4444g, came out 4435g - a tiny margin of error!

LRHRN · 20/11/2020 10:43

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion you will no doubt have a long baby too then.

My first a boy was 7lb 12oz at 39+2
Second a girl was 8lb on her due date
I'm guessing this babe will be around the same sort of mark as she's a week early.
We shall see, im slightly obsessing over weight now instead of watching for labour signs 🤦🏼‍♀️ I need to just calm down and relax

@SockQueen @Babyshine2020 pretty accurate then really. It's amazing seeing how different everyone's estimates are and wether they were correct or not.

My friend had GD and was told baby was 10lb+ at 37weeks so she needed to be induced at 38 weeks she went through the induction and ended up with an ECS and the baby was 5lb 2oz 🤷🏼‍♀️ she was expecting a nearly 11lb boy
I don't know how they can get it that wrong, 1lb either way yeah

Nope! Was told at least 9lbs & there’s a good chunk of a baby in there 😳 worried sick I was. He was 7lbs 7oz & tiny!

Miffyliffy · 20/11/2020 21:18

Mine have never been accurate.

Several kilos off each time.

hiredandsqueak · 20/11/2020 21:25

Dsis was told her baby wouldn't weigh five pounds. She gave birth the following day and dn weighed 9lb 14oz. Tbf she had the tiniest bump so no idea where he was hiding.

Dyra · 20/11/2020 21:52

Mine was pretty spot on. Estimated 6lb 15oz at 35+6 (growth scan). Born at 37+1 weighing 7lb 5oz.

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 20/11/2020 22:40

My 2nd was estimated at 9lb at 38+4. Born that day he was 7lb6oz. So quite far off for me.

LRHRN · 23/11/2020 03:45

Baby girl was born yesterday weighing 8lb 3oz so weight estimate wasn't too far out.
She's absolutely tiny though and even the midwives were shocked and thought she'd be less than 7lb. It's the little chubby cheeks that have done it 😂
