I'm 6 weeks pp and started my period 4 days ago it's been very heavy bright red and clots it has gotten a litter lighter but into much and every time I pump it gets heavier

I was just wondering did anyone first period stay heavy whole time then just stop ?

Will the breastfeeding make me keep bleeding ?

How long was your first period?

Just looking advice please hope some good news about this stopping only had a weeks break from bleeding since birth and had hard c section recovery just so drained and fed up with all the bleeding pads and bandages

Hi Lily, that sounds exhausting.
I dont think this is a period if you are breastfeeding and have hardly had a break since the birth.
Breastfeeding doesnt cause bleeding but I do remember big clots coming out after feeds.
Prolonged bleeding after birth can be caused by doing too much. Are you getting enough rest?
You need a day in bed with baby. Today. Sleep, eat, feed baby, cuddle, rest.
Please let your health visitor know too so she can look after you.

If your worried about bleeding you can also call the ward you delivered on for advice or their maternity triage department.

I work in maternity and my advice to you is to go and get checked. Bleeding after having a baby can all depend on what kind of birth you had ie vaginal or csec if there were any complications etc. You don't want to become low on iron through this as you'll feel even worse.

My advice is to get checked over and as another poster has said rest up in bed lots of good food if you can stomach it etc.

I hope your feeling better soon my dear Daffodil

Thanks for your reply I'm only breastfeeding during the day now and ff at night
I spoke to a midwife and my gp at my 6weeks check up they both said it's my period
Just hoping it dosnt go on for much longer my normal period or 5/6 days hoping this will be the same

Oh, sorry, I see you’ve done that already! But if you’re worried don’t be afraid to ask again. Hope it improves soon.

GPs and Health Visitors do get things wrong sometimes. Its not normal to have a heavy periodone week after you stop bleeding with lochia. Did they know you had only just stopped bleeding?
Anyway, resting will help.
