Bleeding again at 5 weeks postpartum

ImaSababa · 12/10/2020 19:28

I thought my postpartum bleeding had finished, as it tailed off to nothing a couple of days ago. However, it's back with a vengeance today - mix of red and brown. DD is five weeks old today, born by c-section.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have my 6 week appointment next week, so I'll mention it if it carries on.

This happened to me the day we were going to register our LB so maybe 4 weeks pp ish. They advised me to come back into hospital for a couple of checks but I wasn't there long. Best to contact them ASAP I'd say OP to be on the safe side. Hope alls ok!

Thanks @pigletpie2177 - I'll get it checked out.

I had this with both my DC and was told it was just a normal period. Which was odd because I was breastfeeding, but whatever it was, it stopped after five days just like a normal period.

My bleeding restarted again at 6 weeks like a normal period, I think if I remember correctly it was the start of my periods coming back xx

My bleeding restarted and it was just my period (extra annoying as I was EBF!)

Do give them a call if you’re worried though.

Agree with those saying it might be your period - it happened to me on the day of my 6 week check and the doctor said it would just be my period and he was right. From what I remember, the first one is a bit of a 'clear out' Envy

Yes mine totally stopped after about 3 weeks then came back a week later. Midwife told me it was normal and it stopped after another week or so. Annoying though!

polkadotpixie · 13/10/2020 06:52

Mine finished after about 10 days and then I got my period at 26 days post partum so could quite easily just be your period

ImaSababa · 13/10/2020 09:03

I hadn't even thought that it could be my period! I'm breastfeeding, and was hoping for a few months respite from AF 😂

It is usually one of three things: having done too much; your period; infection/retained placenta.

If it's an infection or similar, you'd expect other signs such as fever, pain, smell, feeling unwell so keep an eye. Otherwise, it should become apparent if it's the lochia having a last hurrah or your period.

sarahc336 · 13/10/2020 18:12

Also my first period as another poster on this post has already mentioned was awful, a lot heavier than normal and I think this is quite common so even if it's quite heavy it probably is just so your af starting again x
