Help! I think I'm getting contractions now and am terrified of birth

They feel like really strong bh. I can still talk through them but I forgot how painful they were.
I've been listening to some hypnobirthing cd's for the past few weeks but I don't think they've had any effect on me.
I'm also having a midwife assisted birth where she'll come home and stay with me and then accompany me to the hospital when she thinks I'm ready for 2nd stage. They don't like epidurals as it slows things down. I thought I'd be happy with that and am now unsure.
I thought I was trying to be in control but I've just realised I'm not and am panicking.

Are you able to put the hypnobirthing cd on again? I did hypnobirthing as well and thought it hadn't made a difference but when it cam to the birth I am sure if did have a benficial effect.

Hey Hon, sending you a big hug. Try and ride them out, like a surfer. Bite down hard, and try and disengage your mind. That little snuffly babe will be here soon and want cuddles. Feeling for you.

Yes, I can. Its on my ipod. I hope it has had an effect on me too.
Ok, I'll go and do that. Thanks.

Sending hugs - hope all goes well. Hypnobithing is meant to produce a quick labour so hope it does that for you.

turquoisenights · 10/10/2007 21:40

wish you good luck.
i hope everything will go smooth and cuddle your baby soon.

Not spoken to you before but didn't want you to be out there on your own! Best of luck.

Someone also suggested rescue remedy in a bottle of water and to just sip it.It's supposed to keep me calm.
Has anyone tried that?

Good luck Wintersun.
Remember that you can go to hospital at any time and labour there with pain relief if you choose to. There's no shame in changing your mind.

I was pregnant with no4 two weeks ago and suddenly went into premature labour at 33 weeks. I was so scared in the weeks beforehand and had also forgotten how painful labour was. I even said during labour that I was sure it wasn't that painful with dd2, but i am sure it was now. anyway, I am sure you get through it ok. Just try to relax and have bath if possible.
good luck, will be thinking of you

Thanks everyone. It really helps when people are being positive and giving good advice.
Am going to go and listen to my cd, sip my water and sit in a bath when the contractions get worse.
