First period after childbirth...REALLY heavy

Not sure exactly where to post this, so hopefully some post-childbirth ladies can help.
I've came on my first period since childbirth (I am 12 weeks pp)
Yesterday was a medium flow, but today...jesus. It's like I've just given birth again it is literally pouring from me (sorry!) I have been having to change my pad every hour cus it's just filling it!!
I'm sat in the bath and it is literally tinged red. Is this normal for it to be this heavy?! I feel like I need maternity pads all over again, I did not expect this!!

I'm 12 weeks PP today and got my first period at the weekend. For me, it started with light spotting on Friday, heavy flow on Saturday (nowhere near what you're describing though) and started trailing off from there.

I'm sure everyone is different but if that amount of blood loss continues over the next 24hrs I'd maybe give your health visitor/GP a call just to check.

Normal for it be heavier after a baby but that sounds too much. Anyone filling a pad in an hour needs to seen. I would ring 111.

I had this too - it was like when the lift doors open in The Shining and blood just pours down the corridor.

Give it a couple of days, rest a lot, and consider some vitamin pills with iron if you tend towards anaemia.

Sending best wishes.

My first period after my baby was quite possibly the worst period of my life and inthink it can be heavier than normal Confused however do you feel better all periods after that first one seemed more normal for me xx

Just had my first period since birth, it was truly horrendous, very heavy and painful, nothing like before pregnancy, hoping it gets better next time 😥

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 04/10/2020 21:49

@Chew2 if it gives you any reassurance I'm just on my 2nd period now and it's nothing like the first one was! Its heavy, but I've always been quite heavy anyway. I havent have any pains or cramping either with this one which has been nice.

@BeautyAndTheBump1 hey sorry to jump on as I know this is old and you may not see this!

I'm also 12 weeks pp and I'm worried about how heavy the bleeding is! Did you speak to anyone like a doctor or just get on with it? I've never have blood come out of me so much before ! Also filling a pad every hour. Only on the second day hoping it drys up as its driving me insane 😩😩😩 xx

Yep i did speak to a MW she said it was normal and only to be concerned if i had clots bigger than a 50p, the period did eventually get better and has been lighter each time! Im 7 months PP now

Hey I know I’m revisiting an older post but I’m just wondering how much is too much?

My first period was frighteningly heavy 8 months after birth - I didn’t have clots, but I leaked through a super tampon after 20 mins for about 2-3 hrs then it only gradually reduced to ‘normal’ levels after 24-48hrs or so. It was so bad I had to set an alarm through the night to change and only didn’t call 111/999 from sheer embarrassment.

Sorry this is tmi but although I knew it couldn’t be normal, I didn’t have the energy or courage to leave the house at the time as I didn’t seem to have clots.

Im curious to post with some sort of anonymity here hoping to find out how abnormal this is as it surely can’t be normal!!!!
