Is this normal? In pain for weeks now...

Hello everyone,

I'm aware there are always so many of these threads but....
I'm 39+4 and for weeks now (every few days not every single night) I am up all night with awful period cramping and pelvic pain where I think labour may start. I lost part of my mucus plug around 37 weeks but not the show, for context. Midwife thinks baby is nice and low and she is in a good position.

For example, last night, I thought to myself this must be the start of it as I know early labour can feel like period pain and pressure in the pelvis. It was quite intense, had lots of BH and then more painful tightenings and then this morning I had a sharp and painful tightening. HOWEVER - whenever I then wake up and go about my day it seems to tail off.

They won't do any checks/sweeps on me until 41 weeks plus.
Did anyone have this, and if so how long for?

I don’t know how common it is but I’m 38+3 and have had exactly the same thing for the last week. I was monitored at the weekend for reduced movements and they picked up contractions on the monitor so that along with back and pelvic pain I was convinced I’d go into labour over the weekend but it’s not progressed into anything at all Sad

@OneIsAWorldOfBooks It's so frustrating isn't it! The pain is awful but I feel like if I knew it was doing something/the start of labour then I'd be okay managing it as it would feel purposeful!

@GalaxyGirl24 yes I feel exactly the same! There’s been times the pain has got really intense and I’ve thought this MUST be it but then I go to bed and it tails off 🤷🏻‍♀️ When I was in hospital the midwife commented that it wouldn’t be long and to make sure I’d got everything ready for labour, it’s been 4 days now and I’m still very much pregnant Hmm

GalaxyGirl24 · 25/08/2020 10:30

Hahaha same @OneIsAWorldOfBooks - my midwife said to me she was really low and I probably wouldn't make it to my next appt. we will see! It's 31/8/20. I'm hoping that I don't make it to then.
I know what you mean though, when the pain gets that bad you think to yourself this 100% has to be it.

This is me. Been like it for 3 weeks now. I'm now 40+2. Had my others at 38 weeks so disappointed doesn't cut it. I've finally been having my show today and I feel different in my stomach so I'm hoping I'm close now.

GalaxyGirl24 · 26/08/2020 17:34

Fingers crossed for you @Jj2431 ! I've been having back pain today but it comes and goes and is very mild. I'm 39+5 but hoping she comes soon as I don't want to go too far over.
The not knowing is the hardest thing 😖

I'm 35 +3 and I've been like this for a week! No sign of actual labour that I know of (FTM so no clue what's what!) thankfully, but I have a funny feeling baby is getting himself ready!
Tbh I'm so fed up he can come anytime he wants now! He's around 6lb according to MW so he should be ok if he does make an early appearance! 🤞
Please let this be early labour! 🙏🏻

@GalaxyGirl24 has your little one arrived? I am 39+3 with DS2 and exactly the same. Was 42 weeks with DS2 and tried EVERYTHING to induce labour. This time I’m just resigned to the fact that he will come when he’s good and ready.

GalaxyGirl24 · 27/08/2020 07:18

@lockdownpregnancy Well hopefully if you've been getting signs so early he will come around 37/38 and not keep you waiting 😬

Also @Chefwifelife nope, I've woken up this morning and still very much pregnant 🤣🤣 i have acupuncture today so will see if that does anything. I had some earlier this week also and on the night I thought I was going into labour as I had on and off pain but nope, was fine by morning. Did your DS1 come naturally at 42 weeks or did you need to be induced?

@GalaxyGirl24 ah boo for you! How many weeks now? I don’t know whether it’s better or worse second time for me as my contractions started in the night with DS1 and there was no mistaking them! I went into labour 12:30 on the Friday morning I was due to be induced. Talk about saved by the bell. Waters didn’t break and no show so was out of the blue. As I physio I used to do acupuncture (before our Trust stopped us using it) and am a big believer in it. Hope it helps to ramp things up.

GalaxyGirl24 · 27/08/2020 08:00

@Chefwifelife I'm 39 + 6 now and due date tomorrow, I'm hoping she's coming today or tomorrow hahah but who knows.
Wow that is good timing on your DS1s part! Hopefully DS2 won't have you waiting on the wires edge this time around!!!!!!
Fingers crossed for the acupuncture, I do believe in it but I know baby will come when she's ready 🙄😖
