Experience of induction

Our second baby was born at 39+6 after a one hour 40 min labour (20 mins after arriving at hospital) and our third baby was a planned home birth who arrived after a 2 hour labour, delivered by my husband as the midwives didn’t arrive in time. We are all expecting that it will be a quick labour again. I’ve planned a home birth again and had the home visit this week. We discussed that there may not be enough midwives on duty or that their catchment area is so wide that they still might not make it in time. Our hospital is a 30 minute drive away, and in rush hour can take up to an hour so if I do go to hospital there’s the risk of giving birth on the way. My midwife just phoned to say that she could get the consultant to phone this week to talk about the possibility of induction at 39 weeks, however this would be the complete opposite of a home birth. She said the risk would be doing it too early and having to use the drip which could make things more intense then lead to needing an epidural which I’ve never had before, which in turn could then slow things down. She does think however that given my history breaking my waters would be enough, but obviously couldn’t guarantee it. I can see the positives of both, but the thought of interfering before he’s ready to be born is against everything I’ve ever wanted to do unless medically necessary, but at the same time I don’t want to end up without a midwife again. I don’t know what to do?? Does anyone else have experience of induction?

I had to be induced due to fast labours. My hosp is 3 hours away. I only had the 1st pessery about 2 hours later labour started and 1 hour after that baby was in my arms. No stitches or interventions. All went pretty well aside from nearly having baby in the corridor 😂

I was also induced due to a previous fast totally unmedicated labour, was told I'd likely only need my waters broken. Ended up on the drip turned up high, couldnt stand the hideous constant contractions so epidural. Took 8 hours of labour for my daughter which I know isn't bad relatively but I wish I'd just waited and gone naturally. I had such a positive experience the first time and wish I'd not forced my body second time round
