Am I overreacting

Right so I’ve been here on maternity ward since 12am with contractions that have become more painful & ive been losing light pink fluid on my pad & I’ve asked the midwife 4 times to check me internally but she’s only been to see me once throughout the day and hasn't checked me because she doesn't think it's necessary & every time I show her the blood on my pad she goes “no big deal”, I’ve had enough. Do I just ask another midwife to come & see me? I'm scared and nervous as it is without being made to feel like I'm overreacting

Have your waters gone? Is it your show on the pad? That can look.pinky and often mucousy. How frequent are your contractions? If your waters have gone you really want to minimise the number of examinations you have as each one increases the risk of infection developing. You can ask for another midwife at any point though, and if you feel unsure about anything ask them to clarify!

I don't know if my waters have gone which is why I'm asking to be checked, I've been losing fluid since this morning during contractions & they've gotten nothing but more painful. I was 2cm dilated at 5am so in 12 hours I haven't been checked again despite the pain and fluid loss, I'm just really stressed and nervous and frankly scared about everything

Please insist on a second opinion. My sister had bleeding during labour which they ignored - luckily all good in the end - but definitely insist on a check- don't be afraid to make a fuss. Good luck.

Did she actually say, "No big deal?" I think that's very dismissive and it would really piss me off.

it must be really frustrating being alone and in pain, are you in a bay with other women or side room? Are you able to wander outside to have a breather? Have they done a speculum to see if they can see any fluid draining? Are the contractions now really regular or still irregular? Why are you being kept in? Sorry a million questions! It may be that if the contractions are still irregular that you are in early/latent labour still. Have you been offered pain relief? Hope things pick up for you x

Honestly make a fuss and insist, it may very well be no big deal but you need to know that with some level of certainty and to get that you need them to check and reassure you. So keep pressing your call button till someone comes if that's what you need to do, or if you have someone there with you have them go to the reception for your ward and insist that a midwife attend and check on you.

I showed her and her words were "not that much there, no big deal" but it's been persistent throughout the day every time I've changed my pad. They haven't examined me for 12 hours now, contractions are more regular and definitely more painful, I asked for pain relief and was told to hold off for now, I'm not even sure why I'm being kept in! They know I've struggled massively with perinatal anxiety & depression and I just feel so hopeless at this moment in time. I don't feel capable of anything

I think you are well within your right to ask for more information. I would certainly be asking what is happening and why you are in V being at home if they arent actually monitoring you.

I was in for three days and luckily only had one midwife that was this dismissive. Stand your ground OP, only you know how you feel! If you don’t know and they haven’t checked you to know anything could be going on after 12 hours. Look after yourself and hope all is well

Hope you're okay OP, it's no fun being in labour in the heat, I was there last year!

If I were you I would press the bell, and say you really want to be examined & a trace for baby's heart rate (if not already being done). A few tears wont hurt. Sometimes you have to be really pissed off before they pay any attention.

After a day of nothing she came to do my obs and check me and I just burst into tears. After a good 10/15 minute cry (which I definitely needed) she realised that I was really struggling. I've been checked and my waters have in fact gone, as I've been telling them all day, even tho it means things are going to progress I actually feel calmer now. Going to get a cup of tea and let my body relax so that things can progress more.

OP I hope it goes well for you. My before care was really good but after care was horrendous. Depends on the midwifes. Some are really caring and some just don't care.

Hi lovelies

Dilating has came to a solid stop, I'm just getting ready for them to give me induction medication to get things going. Have the loveliest consultant. Will let you know when she arrives x
