Post c section bleeding

Hi,

I’ve had a c section two weeks ago and the bleeding is still bright red, can go hours with no bleeding and will get a gush every now and again. Earlier I had a gush with small blood clots.

Is this normal? Otherwise I feel fine

I bled for 6 weeks on and off, I felt fine but I think it was definitely a case of doing too much too soon. I was going about my day and driving 10 days post op and I think had I taken more time I wouldn't have bled for so long. I didn't get any clots though so maybe worth a call to the midwife helpline thing, although in hospital post op I showed them what I thought was a massive clot and they said oh don't worry about that (it was twice the size of a 50p!)

Sounds totally normal. I bled for almost 8 weeks last time although it was more like spotting you the end.

I found the bleeding was worse when I'd overdone things.

If you pass any clots or start to feel unwell then definitely seek advice from your hv/gp.

Congratulations on your little one 😊

Are you breastfeeding?

I found that I had clots, and heavier bleeding after feeding my daughter, went on for 8 weeks but not all the time, a large proportion of the day I would have none (if that makes sense).

I rang my midwife to check and she said it was normal, and only to be concerned if it either smelt or if I was filling pads quickly in succession.

I’m not breastfeeding but still leaking milk.

Sounds normal then, was worried when it seems like a normal heavy period but with clots but hopefully it’ll ease off soon.

I had a c section and bled steadily for around a week. It then stopped and started a few days later quite heavily with a few clots. Called maternity unit a few times who said as long as I feel well - they will only investigate further if I am bleeding heavily (running down leg and filling a pad an hour) or pass a clot the size of a dinner plate. It then continued to stop and start up until around 8.5 weeks.
