Waters gone, no contractions

So I've been checked over at the birthing centre and been told to go home for 24 hours and wait for labour to come naturally in 60 percent of women it does and if not I'm booked in for a induction at 5.30.

Obviously I'd like to avoid the induction and let it happen naturally but I will obviously go ahead with the induction if not for the safety of me and my baby.

Was wondering if anyone else had this experience? When did your contractions start? What did you do to bring them on? Been told to just go for long walks etc which I've been doing x

Just my experience...

Waters went in the night, got checked over in hospital and waited on maternity ward for 12 hrs for contractions to come but nothing happened. Was taken through to delivery suite for induction to start but when examined they found baby was breech! I ended up going for a c section later that night.

Can you get moving around to help things along?

My waters broke late one Friday night. No contractions. went to get checked, all ok but sent home to wait. back in Saturday as some spotting. stayed in overnight, still no contractions. Sunday morning was induced 10 hours later still only 3 cm ..DD eventually came by Emergency C late Sunday. Just my experience though.

I had the same they went as she was turning from breech to not breech. I was kept in hospital in case she flipped back over again...… nothing happened so they induced ( I don't remember it being awful).

DD born vaginally 48 hours after my water's broke. I did end up having an epidural because they were concerned that if I did need a C section there weren't any antitheists about to put one in in an emergency situations. That was due to staffing issues rather than clinical need due to the waters breaking early.

Mine went early morning, no contractions all morning. Took my mind off it doing laundry, going for walks etc. Started mild contractions after lunch, baby arrived in the evening. Don't panic, all will be well!

My waters went at 1am, went into hospital as advised because my 2 previous births were very quick. I spent all morning bouncing on the ball in the ward. No contractions or pains until midday, dd was born at 1.45pm. With my other 4 children my waters didn’t break until they were almost delivered. Hope things are progressing for you!

My waters went at about 5am on a Friday. I carried on as normal, ate some pineapple and did lots of bouncing on a gym ball. Had some tightenings in the day. Proper painful contractions started about 10pm and DS was born at 5am on the Saturday. Good luck!!!!

My waters broke early with both pregnancies. First time my contractions started about 8 hours later after lots of walking and stomping up and down stairs and gave birth to dc1 40 hours after waters broke. Second time contractions failed to start even after using a breast pump. Got induced with epidural 56hours after water breaking (the delivery suite was full so delayed) my advice of you get an epidural is to top up (push the button) as much as you can. I was trying to brazen it out and the epidural failed 40minues before giving birth. It was so intense that I dissassociated from myself!!

Waters broke early hours Saturday morning. Had first contraction 36 hours later and then sporadic contractions Sunday and Monday night (all stopped in the day) Midwife check on the Tuesday afternoon showed high bp and protein in urine so sent to hospital and put on drip. DC born on the Wednesday.

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2020 09:51

Mine went at 11.30 pm, contractions started at around 2.30 , 0-10 cm dilation by 5.40 am, baby born by emcs at 6.30 am due to undiagnosed back to back footling breech.

Alonelonelyloner · 02/08/2020 12:08

Mine went early Wednesday morning and I had no contractions at all. Eventually I was induced on Saturday afternoon(!) and ended up with an emergency section on Saturday night.

It was an epic farce and baby ended up with a bad infection because of my waters being left and nearly died. Awful.

Waters broke at 7.30am on a Thursday, 2 weeks early. The MLU examined me and sent me home for 24 hours. The next morning, nothing, so the hospital phoned to tell me to come in for induction at about 11am. I had a pessary at 1pm, contractions started at 4.30pm and I gave birth Friday night at 8pm. I didn't need much help as I was already dilating when the pessary went in.

Zoomintheroom · 02/08/2020 20:30

@denbyellie Hope things are going well!

PiratePetespajamas · 02/08/2020 20:43

Waters broke at 2pm. Went to hospital at 5pm, having been advised to wait until then for contractions to begin (they didn’t). By around 7pm they had come on thick and fast. (Ended up having a caesarean because of undiagnosed breech - but labour did eventually start naturally.)
