not too much ! enough so i don;t look like a total pillock have told them i will chair committee if everyone understands i have no medical knowledge, and they all have to be nice to me

Maternity Matters - Government paper that says by 2008 women will have choice of the type of care they receive, have continuity of care and improved access to services.

CNST - Is where all health trusts pay money into a pot. The amount they pay depends on the size of the trust and the amount of high risk pregnanies, etc they care for each year. Then when a trust is sued for a large amount the compensation comes out of the CNST pot.

NSF - for young people, children and maternity services. Published in 2004. Introduced a 10 year programme aimed at improving services/ setting standards. Said that services should be fitted around what the customers/women need. It said that some groups such as asylum seekers or economicaaly disadvantaged needed focusing on as they were less likely to access services.

There's more to it than that I'm sure, but thats all I can remember!

One of the papers - I think Maternity Matters talks about one-to-one midwifery care by 2008/2009. We need a minimum of another 10,000 midwives for that to happen. Being the cynical person that I am its a load of government spin that's never going to happen.

I'd call that realistic, not cynical

Just like changing childbirth and we know how much influence that had (no smiley to communicate the noise pffffffft!)

It annoys the crap out of me how they imply that there aren't ehough midwives! - noooooooo!!!!!!! there aren't enough bloody jobs you imbeciles - and yet I'm still carrying on with plans to retrain as a midwife when my latest passenger is nusery age (or before if i find myself talking to the furniture)

friend is starting next year at the local university . so will see how she fares

next one not till end of January, by which point i have to have read Maternity Matters ( again) and focus on salient and relevant aspects that got thrown up today

Am also fed up with the government spin saying there is a shortage of midwives. Er, no - there is a shortage of jobs. I know dozens of unemployed midwives and have no doubt that I will be stacking shelves at Tescos when I qualify in a few months.
