Hi all. I had my baby girl on 5 July, induced but normal vaginal delivery. Yesterday I spoke to my community midwife as my bleeding had started up again over the weekend (it had more or less stopped about a week ago) and it was quite heavy and bright red, kind of like straight after birth. I also woke up yesterday feeling really unwell, last week or so had lost appetite and felt drained. Yesterday I had banging headache, could barely keep my eyes open and pain at the top of my stomach making me feel really sick. I was told to ring triage and from there was told to come to hospital to be checked over. Urine sample showed really bad urine infection, I’m now on two lots of antibiotics for these. I also had bloods taken and vaginal exam, dr arranged for ultrasound scan to check for retained product and told me to stay in hospital so been in 1 night. Bleeding has slowed down but I am passing small clots (5p size) My scan is at some point today. I’ve tried researching retained product but not finding much for 2 weeks after birth. I’m getting a bit stressed and wondered if anyone had experienced the same thing and what is the treatment if they do find anything in there?

Hey Hun.. I had retained placenta after csection which is really naughty on surgeons behalf.. they will give you a scan and if there's tissue still there you will be given a medication to make your uterus contract (abit like abortion tablet) then rescanned.. if still there then they will put you under and take it out - it's called a DNC

Hope you feel better soon x

Thank you for your reply. I had the scan yesterday and they did find retained product. I had medication at 1 and they sent me home happy with progress at 2. They didn’t say anything about being scanned again but I am seeing midwife tomorrow so it may be something she mentions then. Really hope that’s the end of it now as had nothing but bad luck since the birth and hate being in hospital! But I do feel a lot better and bleeding has stopped now so should be all gone now :-) x
