1st baby - Elective C Section

Hello !

I am currently pregnant with my first baby and having a very complicated relationship with my body which took me years to manage , I am considering elective c-section.

Also considering going private if this is refused by NHS.

Does anyone have experiences with first baby elective c-section? Any regrets? Or quite happy on the contrary?

I had my first baby via ELCS last year; zero regrets at all. It was very straightforward and I made an excellent recovery. Mine was for maternal mental health reasons and was never questioned; I know some people have to fight more for it but I had an excellent midwife and consultant.

I had one but was given effectively no choice - I was told my baby would be unlikely to survive a vaginal delivery. So I was pretty much in the opposite situation to you but the section was ok and we both got through it. I'm left with adhesions that cause me monthly pain though. It's a big op and not without risks and consequences.

I had to fight the nhs for my first second. And then head to fight again for the second.

In all honesty, If you are considering going private and you can afford it then do it. The experience is like night and day (I use a mix of private and nhs care. I just can’t afford the actual section privately and I am private for all other healthcare).

If you can afford it you won’t regret it. You get treated so much better.

I had one because of a breech baby and it was amaaaaaazing. Loved it. 10/10 would c-section again.
