Belly immediately after c section

Just wondering what's normal, do you always have a really big overhang straight away? I've read that it's best to 'air' the wound, but imagine that could be pretty hard to do unless you lie flat on your back a lot, which I can't do for long due to back problems anyway.

Should I try and buy some supportive leggings that hold the overhang up as opposed to tucking it into looser clothing? Is it possible that the overhang won't be too bad straight away whilst the wound heals?

I aired my overhang while sitting down, after a c section there is alot of sitting down, or there should be. congratulations on the baby.

I never really got the overhang thing. After my section my stomach took a week or two to shrink back to normal size, but there was never any "overhang" so to speak, it just went from rounded back to flat(ish!). I wore a maternity pad against the wound for the first few weeks and stuck to leggings until it was comfortable to wear anything else

I never had the overhang, just a slightly swollen stomach.

I had a dressing on until day 10 so couldn't air it. Once that was taken off it was virtually (externally) healed. I just kept it clean and dry.

I didnt have the overhang after my 1st section but did after my second. I did nothing different I imagine it has a lot to do with scar tissue and the way you are seen back up. I wouldnt worry about it too much tbh.

I think it's to do with how many babies you've had. I had no over hand after my first baby, a natural birth.
Elective section for second and have a slight over hand which has reduced to pretty much normal now 6 months after.

Just air it for 5 mins lying down a couple of times a day and after you shower.

I looked everywhere for leggings that would "lift" my belly afterwards, but as PP said just ended up wearing leggings as they were most comfy. Now fully back in jeans and I wear high waisted but over hang not an issue.
Good luck and congratulations x
