So I had a sweep at midday today... and have had a few pains when walking around but nothing much to report other than that. Other that I lost my show (though it wasn't bloody) ...

What are your experiences with this?

Has anyone's sweeps actually worked? And if so how long did they take to work and stuff ..?

Any stories much appreciated !! 😘

I had one with last baby. Was a morning midwife appointment around 10am I think and I was 40+2. She told me to go for a long walk after which I did..bounced on ball on and off after and my waters broke at 11pm that night.
However nothing else then happened so ended up with induction, which I never wanted so mixed feelings over it really.
Have heard lots of stories of them working so fingers crossed for you!

I had one this Wednesday afternoon, and apart from losing my mucous plug nothing has happened since, so I guess it didn’t work.

It was a bit more successful with DD1 a couple of years ago though - had one on a Wednesday, contractions on and off all Thursday, proper labour started Friday and she was born early Saturday. I wonder if the difference is because I was already overdue by the time I had it then, whereas this week I had one a bit early (am 39+5 today).

I had one at 3.15pm at 39+2 but was told not to expect much, may get a show etc. Had a show at 7.30 ish that evening, then full on contractions from 9pm one every two to three minutes lasting for a minute. Got to hospital at 11pm baby born less than 2 hours later.

I had one with DC2. I was 8 days over and the misery of being so huge managed to get me over the squeamishness! I had the sweep at around 3.30pm and was very disappointed when midwife said my cervix was still high. But within a hour or so I felt some contractions. By 6.30 we were trying to rush to hospital and I gave birth around 9.30pm - would've been sooner but he was back to back - so in my case it definitely worked Grin

I had 5 sweeps with my last and none of them worked. I hope yours does though

Well I was having quite bad pains last night. Even struggled to get to sleep then woke up to it all gone away. Then it came back for a couple hours now it's all gone again. I've tried everything to get it going. If it don't work tonight I'm booked in to a induction tomorrow morning which I really don't wanna do x

First sweep at 39+6 - gave me cramping and mucus plug began to come away. If I walked the cramping would increase but then decrease after. Spent hours and hours walking and bouncing on my ball and nothing came of it. Cervix was 75% effaced, low, soft, and 1cm dilated.

2nd sweep at 40+5, cervix was still 75% effaced & soft, but still only 1cm dilated. Also told me he had moved to back to back.
Went home and cried and had a pity party for myself because I was still only 1cm. Napped on the sofa all afternoon and did zero of the "walking bouncing" etc that they recommend cus I was in such a shit mood. Had no cramping, took the dog out for a walk that night and then after being back for about an hour I started with cramping which quickly led to contractions every 5 mins, 36 hours later DS was born!
