Hi,

I have 9 weeks left and was wondering what is the current restrictions on birth partners?

How long can an they stay?

How long do you have to stay in if a good birth?

I'm going to be at the William Harvey hospital Kent

I know a lot can change in 9 weeks but want to be physically prepared as I was wanting my mum and husband

Our local hospital in the North West it’s one birth partner and, if all well, women are discharged after 3 hours if they are happy to go.

Same in the Midlands where a cousin just gave birth.

A lot can happen in 9 weeks though.

It varies between Trusts. Your best bet is to speak to your midwife and see what the rules are at your hospital. And a lot can change in 9 weeks at the moment. In general it seems to be that birth partner can be with you during established labour only, and a couple of hours after, but there’s a lot of variation in that.

NI have just changed it where partners can come to scans, for labour and visiting afterwards (they have to wear a mask) . This was just brought in yesterday so a lot can definitely and hopefully will change in 9 weeks for all the other trusts.

Have a look at that website, husband can definitely be there but it's just one birth partner at the minute!

I gave birth 3 weeks ago (north east), my partner was allowed in the delivery suite from start to when I needed to go to the ward. I was only allowed 1 person and he had to wear a mask while the midwifes were in the same room but could take it off when it was just me, him and the baby. He was not allowed on the ward at all but we were given a few hours family time on the delivery suite before he had to leave. It wasn't as bad as I expected.

Most hospitals in England are allowing one birth partner only. They will be allowed in when labour is established and must then stay ( no popping down to shop etc)
So it is a good idea to pack some drinks and snacks for you both.
It is worth checking with the hospital 💚

The hospital I’m going to is allowing the birth partner to visit on postnatal for 2 hours per day pre booked now
