Did you recover from c section infection?

I had a c section almost 3 weeks ago. Last night I went to hospital because I realised the wound was leaking puss from one edge. I've been given a weeks worth of antibiotics and ill get results from swab in 5 days time.

The wound is sore. I'm worried that this will make recovery so much longer. Has anybody who's c section got infected tell me how it went for them?

I had an elected c section because my first birth ended in emergency c section with myself and son getting sepsis. Obvs this is not as bad as that but I feel like it's made me on edge about it. I'm worried I'm going to get very sick.

(I'll report this to get it moved to childbirth)

Hi Op, sorry to hear you’ve got an infection and I know it’s incredibly painful.

With my first c-section I actually got 3 infections and it kept popping open at one side (did far too much too soon I think) it was agony each time it happened and I did feel quite flu like and unwell by the 3rd infection but with plenty of rest I did recover and would say I was definitely pain free and back to normal activities like driving by 8 weeks. It left me with no long term problems and my last caesarean 18 months ago was problem free. Hope you feel better soon

The antibiotics will help. I also used to bathe my wound in a sink of water with 2 or 3 drops of lavender oil. A midwife told me to do it. I’d also add some to my bath. I’d bathe it two or three times a day making sure it dried properly

I had a planned c section nearly 6 weeks ago now. I had an emcs 3 years ago with no problems.
This time, I noticed that my wound was slightly open at one side so I had it swabbed, there was an infection and had antibiotics.
I finished the course 2 weeks ago now, and the wound is looking great. No soreness and knitted together nicely.
I hope you heal quickly.

Thanks for your replies. I will definately try the lavender bath, sounds nice.

Its so hard to not over do it. My wound got infected after the edge opened up. I feel like if I only listened to my body I would literally never get out of bed!

It was over doing it that caused mine to open up, I was made to walk about and stand and shower just 6 hours after surgery. I was then discharged after 36 hours with strong painkillers and as I couldn’t really feel any pain I got on with things as normal. I clearly remember walking round shopping for extra baby things with DP at Babies R us on Day 3 and nearly collapsing at the tills Blush

With my 2nd section despite midwives trying to get me up I refused to get out of bed for 24 hours (I did move my legs abit for circulation!) and then rested as much as I could. They also didn’t give me any painkillers this time so I could feel if I was straining myself. I rested as much as I could for 2 weeks and felt absolutely fine and healed by week 4, a complete contrast in recovery.

Antibiotics and rest Op!
