Could this be the start?

Morning All,

I'm 39+1 with baby #1 and when I got up this morning I felt a little gush. Didn't think much of it but went to the loo and my PJ bottoms are wet and when I wiped after peeing, there was a rusty brown spotting on the paper (which I also noticed in my pants). It's like the start/end of a period. Could this be my 'show'? I'm not having any pains or tightenings. I've put a pad on to monitor how much fluid (if any) continues to come out.

I'm booked to have a section early next week on my due date and wondering at what point do I call triage?

I've rung my midwife and left a voicemail but she doesn't start work until 9am so waiting for a call back. I'm probably getting ahead of myself but just don't want to leave it too late to go in incase things progress quickly and it makes the section less likely.

Any advice would be appreciated x

Morning 🤗

It sounds like it could possibly be your hind waters went and then your show which can suggest your about to go. If i were in your position I wouldn't bother with phoning your midwife i'd phone the maternity ward and explain as you may progress fast and I know you want a c section. Don't wait doll just phone in, chances are your midwife will most likely not phone you back straight away. Best of luck 💕

molifly14 · 10/06/2020 08:50

As your booked in for a C Section, i would ring the maternity ward and see what they say. Things might happen quickly so best to make them aware.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/06/2020 08:51

Yep sounds like the start- good luck OP

yukka · 10/06/2020 08:57

They can do a test to confirm if your waters did break (even a little pop) and if so one way or another you'll have a baby in 24hrs....

Good luck!

LusciousV · 10/06/2020 09:00

Thanks ladies! Tried calling triage 3 times but the line is permanently engaged 😣 I'll keep trying and keep you updated 👍🏼 x

Finally got through! The midwife advised me to put a fresh pad on and lie on my side for an hour and then call her back. If it is my waters then they should soak through the pad. Don't know if I want this to be it or not 😳 am I ready? Will I ever be? 🙈😂 x

Course your ready 🤭 get bouncing on a ball too then you'll really see.. get a towel down just in case 🤣 xx

LusciousV · 10/06/2020 10:57

@FirstTM2020 😂🙈

Well ladies, looks like it was a false alarm! Still got a bit of old blood coming away but not much more fluid so the midwife thinks it's just my cervix preparing itself. 6 days till section day and counting... if nothing else happens in the meantime 🤞🏼 either way, not long now 👶🏼

Thanks again x

Great stuff doll, close your legs at all times 🤣💕

LusciousV · 10/06/2020 16:28

Me again 🙈 I haven't had any further 'gushes' or leaks but I'm still spotting. There's a little bit on the pad and it's on the paper every time I wipe. It was darkish brown when it started this morning but it's lighter in colour now (although the same amount).

Should I expect this to continue right up until he's born? I thought it was settling down earlier but then I went for a pee and think I lost a bit of my plug 😳 I could feel something come out, it felt like a blob but I couldn't really see anything when I looked. Still no tightenings or pains but baby is very active.

Well my waters didn't go properly until I was 9cm dilated. I had a pop in the morning with a trickle, I wouldn't have filled a pad in an hour at all, but I was have light contractions, so maybe you are just getting ready. Are you feeling ok to have a natural birth with a c section booked?

wannabemummy123 · 11/06/2020 00:14

Any news op?

LusciousV · 11/06/2020 21:25

Hi All,

Just to update you... baby's here!!!!

Got up to pee at 2.55am this morning and as soon as i got back into bed I felt a gush, then another, then another.... i jumped up and ran to the bathroom to find my mucous plug had fully come away and water was pouring out of me! Contractions started straight away so I called triage who told me to make my way in.

On arriving, the obstetrician explained that unless there was a medical need, they'd prefer to wait until daylight hours to perform the section so that there are more bodies around (Just in case). However they noticed the pain I was in with the contractions and examined me to find I was already 4cm dilated so theatre was prepped there and then and I was taken down for my category 3 section where our baby boy, Finn, was born at 6.37am (3.5hrs from waters breaking), weighing 7lbs 13oz and looking perfect 🤩🥰
