ELCS at 40+0

Hi All,

I'm due to have a c section next week. It was originally booked for Monday (at 39+6) which I thought was a bit late. However, I received a letter today pushing it back a day, to my due date.

I'm really nervous that labour is going to start before then. This is my first baby and part of the reason I opted for an ELCS was to have some control over when I'd give birth so I could mentally prepare myself. Now I'm starting to feel anxious that I'm going to wake during the night in a puddle of amniotic fluid, in pain and have to rush to the hospital half asleep and in a panic.

Has anyone else had their section scheduled this late? Most people I know or have read about have them closer to 39 weeks than 40 😣

Mine was pushed back to 40 weeks at my request. I hadn't gone into active labor with my first so they said it was fine but risky as she was breech. I don't think I slept for that week. My suggestions is to have everything ready every night, someone with you to drive you there and the phone numbers in your address book so you can ring on the way if need be. Find ways to distract yourself during the day and concentrate on music/white noise to help you get to sleep.

Good luck!

Hi, mine was at 40+0. At my request. Should add that this was my third baby (2 previous EMCS) and both had been late, so I guessed this one would be late too and I'd have nothing to worry about.
Consultant just said it was my risk to take and if I did go into labour beforehand it would be another EMCS.
So, I wouldn't worry too much but if you do feel any tingle of a contraction, go in straight away so they have plenty of time to prepare and make it as un-emergency as possible. Good luck!

@Ratbagratty @SansaClegane Thank you both! My bags are packed, the car seat is fitted and in terms of the practicalities, I'm good to go. I'm just hoping he stays put until section day 🤞🏼x
