What did labour feel like with your third?

I'm overdue, and woke up this morning and after around half an hour started having random pains and tightening across my belly. They were on and off between 7-12 but since they've pretty much gone very far apart I'm barely noticing.

I was hoping it would be the start of labour as the pains were quite strong. But now not as strong. What were your 3rd labours like? Could it just have slowed down a bit because I'm busier now that I was this morning? I can feel a pain now as I'm writing this so it hasn't gone completely.

Hi! Also overdue with my third.

Hate to say but I’ve been having on/off contractions for days now :(
They start in evening and are very achy /period pain, type tightenings. Sometimes painful. Then they just fizzle out.

It’s so frustrating- apparently common for 3rd baby.

I have today lost a bit of mucous plug which is good I guess. I’ve pretty much given up feeling excited when I get these pains now!!

I’ve done so much walking and bouncing on my ball !

Neolara · 29/05/2020 14:14

It was very quick and intense. First twinge to baby being cuddled in just under 30 minutes. Delivered by DH before midwife / ambulance arrived.

Good luck!

flissity · 29/05/2020 14:26

Wow that was quick!!

I am planning a homebirth :)

overdueandwaiting · 29/05/2020 14:46

@Neolara wow that's fast!

@flissity I hope your baby comes soon then. It's awful having pains on and off and then nothing happening. Mine don't feel like they're getting stronger or anything so it looks like I'm in this for the long haul. I actually expected it to go pretty fast as my other labours did.

My other 2 came 10 and 11 days late. One was induced , one about a 13hr labour. So I’m not expecting a Quick one either!

My pains have got slightly worse. But only over days not hours.

I am just ready for it now. But there’s
Nothing you can do!! Just wait .... 🙄

overdueandwaiting · 29/05/2020 16:06

Hopefully not too much longer for you then if it's been days already. Have you got an induction booked already just in case?

I don't have a midwife appointment until next week which is when I guess they'll book an induction if it's needed but I'm hoping baby comes before then. Knowing my luck it'll just be more intense Braxton Hicks than what they have been during this pregnancy 😳🙄

I didn't have any pain with my second labour - it was a pulling feeling under the bump, cervix area, but I immediately recognised from the first time (which was painful) even though I don't think I noticed it then Confused.

MsMeNz · 29/05/2020 16:46

Very quick. Les than 45 mins start to end, with a 10 min break from contractions in middle, as we traveled to hospital so much so.i thought it was a false start. Got in there got dressed climbed I. Table, my midwife. It there yet just a student and she was like shit... Baby is coming out and she was born 3 mins later. With no one but a student for help who did an amazing job btw. 😁

MsMeNz · 29/05/2020 16:49

Sorry for all the typos, ugh I wish you could edit easily posts on here. Just was saying teh midwife was not there yet, only a student midwife.

I had really strong Brixton Hicks two nights before, then the third night I had the same Brixton Hicks but began to turn painful which was early labour , I gave birth 23hours later.

ElectricTonight · 29/05/2020 17:31

I meant Braxton Hicks , autocorrect Blush

overdueandwaiting · 29/05/2020 17:36

I bet it's just Braxton Hicks for me today then too... 😂

With my last child I had Braxton Hicks the night before and then when I went into labour I wasn't sure if it was labour or not because it felt the same and within an hour it was intense so I knew it was labour.

From what I've read many people have very fast labours with their third child. I'm keeping an eye on my tightenings now though as roughly every 20-25 mins I'm getting quite a strong ish tightening.

Fast & furious 90 mins from 1st contraction to holding him in my arms. Went home 2 hrs later. It was Christmas eve & a lot to do!

flissity · 29/05/2020 21:32

@overdueandwaiting I’ve got an appointment Wednesday (routine) and they said they’ll book induction... am not keen tbh!! Had induction with first but spontaneous second labour.

I got to a contraction every 10 minutes earlier this evening. Like very bad period pain with the rock hard bump obviously. Had a bath and it’s calmed down...

flissity · 29/05/2020 21:34

Will you go for a sweep next week??
Obviously you may already have had the baby by then 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

overdueandwaiting · 29/05/2020 22:19

@flissity that's what my first and second labours were like, induction with first and so much pain, second was spontaneous and much nicer.

My tightenings have got stronger and closer together so I'm thinking I may be in actual labour but don't know wether to go to bed to see if it calms down or wether to just call the hospital.

Hope yours doesn't result in induction again and things start soon.

flissity · 29/05/2020 22:40

I really don’t feel I will get to the point of induction. Hopefully that’s not just wishful thinking.

I’m laying on sofa and mine have almost gone now.

I really hope this is it for you- it’s got to happen at some point! Keep me posted if you feel like it.

My advice would be- if you can rest then rest. If it is ‘real’ labour then it will just carry on. If not then at least you’ll have had some rest in case it starts properly tomorrow.

I’ve got everything crossed for you x

overdueandwaiting · 30/05/2020 13:27

@flissity I managed a bit of sleep and I'm in labour. Contractions are coming thick and fast now

Munchkin08 · 30/05/2020 13:35

Like many of the others have said, had a show the day before, woke in the night with a few twinges, went to hospital because no. 2 was fast. 15 minutes later and 3 pushes she was born.

flissity · 30/05/2020 17:19

Over @overdueandwaiting 🥳🥳🥳

Best of luck x

overdueandwaiting · 31/05/2020 06:23

@flissity my baby was born yesterday afternoon. After I'd posted the last message I had a couple of hours before the baby came. The end part was really fast, but the early labour stage was long.

Hope all goes well with yours. And thank you to everyone who messaged to let me know your experiences.
