Stockings and injections after C section.

Hi all.

This is my second section. First was emergency. Had a bit of the baby blues or whatever after the first and found 6 weeks of surgical stockings and twice daily injections into the stomach horrendous and pretty soul destroying as I felt so grim at the time anyway!

Not everyone has to do this, but for those that did, did you do them both all 6 weeks?

I know I could have much bigger problems than this, I'm just wondering if I'm a chump wearing those socks for 6 weeks in the heat.

Thanks

I had to wear the stockings for 6 weeks and inject for 10 days I think

I wore the stockings religiously, I’m a fat lass and it took me a fair while to get back to my usual levels of mobility, the section kinda side swiped me.

I’d rather feel a bit grotty than risk a DVT to be honest x

DaffodilsAndDandelions · 26/05/2020 14:17

I too had an EMCS and was given the stockings and injections. I was only told to inject for 10 days thankfully. I managed a week! And it was only once a day. The stockings I wore but it was a mid December birth so an extra layer was no problem at all.
I was fairly active quickly though as I had 2 collies dogs to walk and a baby that would t sleep unless the pushchair carried on moving!
The jabs are really grim and it was putting a strain on early motherhood hanging over me all day that I needed to do it. I hope I never have to do it again. Don't know how insulin injecting diabetics manage!

🤞 you also get a shorter course of jabs x

1300cakes · 26/05/2020 14:24

Six weeks! Hopefully you get a shorter course recommended this time, I got ten days. I found it a bit painful to do them in the stomach area, the nurse said I could put them in to any area of fat so I did them in my thighs/saddlebag area instead.

Pinkflipflop85 · 26/05/2020 14:31

Had an emergency section on October. Only had to inject once a day for 10 days. Hospital told me to take the stockings off after 5 days (I was still in hospital at that point)

Ejb86 · 26/05/2020 14:32

I was told 6 weeks of stockings but didn't. I also had 10 days of injections.

Sadly MC my most recent pregnancy but consultant told me I'd be injecting for a month! I was dreading it.

SofiaAmes · 26/05/2020 14:35

What are you injecting? What are the socks for? I had an EMCS 20 years ago and had no injecting or socks. I am in the US now and I don't know anybody who has to inject anything or wear socks.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/05/2020 14:35

2 x emcs. Dc1 they took the stockings off on day 3 and I had 7 days of injections, once a day.
Dc2 the stockings stayed on till day 2. It was June, I'd only stayed one night in hospital and I wasn't going out in surgical stockings. 7 nights of injections, once a day again.

Was very mobile very fast after both though.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 26/05/2020 14:40

I had an elective section last year, didn’t get stockings or the injections for discharge!

Ejb86 · 26/05/2020 14:42

@SofiaAmes blood thinners and to prevent thrombosis.

Littlegoth · 26/05/2020 14:44

My injections are for 12 weeks! Not sure about the socks but I assume It’ll be the same x

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/05/2020 14:45

Okay, my reading comprehension sucks.

Do they give you more than one pair of stockings? If so would alternating work? Wear them at night when you're lying down and make a decision on the temperature/what you are doing during the day?

Could you get someone else to do the jabs? Dh had to do mine, I just had a mental block about it. I have do his eyedrops for the same reason. Would that help?

ShowOfHands · 26/05/2020 14:48

Injections for 10 days (standard for all CS here, longer for those with risk factors) and the midwife said I could take off the stockings on day 5 as I was walking 2 miles a day and caring for 2 dc alone while DH worked.

OnSilverStars · 26/05/2020 14:52

They have given me two sets of stockings. And I'm definitely being prescribed blood thinning injections for 6 weeks 😞. It's due to risk factors, but I would say it's mostly down to being overweight unfortunately.

My husband would do them if I asked. I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm just feeling depressed by it and I know that's silly! Thanks for all your advice everyone.

I actually asked the midwife yesterday, "does anyone actually wear these for 6 weeks!?"

She smirked and said, "well that's what we recommend, but I don't many do!"

I did the injections for 10 days (my poor SIL is 16 weeks pregnant and has to do them every day until the birth!). I wore the stockings for a few days but gradually stopped after about a week or so.

fedupandlookingforchange · 26/05/2020 15:08

I did do the 10 days of injections (DH mainly did the injections for me) but took the stockings off as soon as got home. I did make sure I moved around gently, frequently e.g I took the elderly and slow dog for a walk. It was the middle of summer and they were horribly sweaty.

THNG5 · 26/05/2020 15:12

After my 1st section (2nd baby), I had the injections for 10 days. After my second section (3rd baby), I had to do them for 6 weeks (no stockings though). I must admit, i gave up after 3 weeks.
I'm now pregnant with number 4 and because I tick more risk factor boxes, I had to start the injections at 13 weeks pregnant. I'm now 26 weeks so still a way to go. I'm not finding them as bad nowadays. Not sure why!

Thegirlhasnoname · 26/05/2020 15:16

I had 10 days of the injections and no stockings given after my EMCS.... and then had a blood clot that covered all of my right leg and half of my torso just over a month later. I’d definitely take the stockings personally as I then had to have 8 months of the injections to treat the clot! 😩

Noflora · 26/05/2020 15:20

Just try and soldier through. I got a DVT and needed 6 months of blood thinning and I'm still wearing the stockings 30 years later.

Nat6999 · 26/05/2020 15:28

I didn't have injections & I left my stockings at the hospital, midwife who saw me at home never mentioned either.

Oriflamme · 26/05/2020 15:32

EMCS here, injections for ten days which was 😰😰 (I cried about it a couple of times!) Socks for…a month, maybe? Can’t remember, but I bought some bright funky ones off Amazon and still wear them in cold weather 😊

OnSilverStars · 26/05/2020 22:31

Thanks all!

I've bought some compression medical grade leggings form the states. They look like normal legging so I'm hoping they're easier to wear (mentally at least!) than the big old white stockings.

OP posts:
stealthbanana · 26/05/2020 22:36

OP I did injections for 7 days and stockings for 5 - but no risk factors here.

FYI seraphine do an excellent post partum legging that is high waisted (good for holding in tummy) and has compression. Black and they look nice. Might be worth a look?

EyeDrops · 26/05/2020 22:38

10 days for both following EMCS last year. Had to get DH to do the injections, I just couldn't face it!

sestras · 27/05/2020 00:03

I didn't have to wear stockings when I had my daughter last year.

One injection a day for 10 days. The tips are bloody tricky to get off.

hellololabells2019 · 27/05/2020 03:23

3 c-sections, stockings on for 2 weeks each time and injections for 6 weeks due to Factor V Leiden
