Hello everyone.

My name is Gemma.
I am 42, divorced and have a 13 year old daughter.
I am in a relationship with my partner now, we have been together for 3 years. I love him very much and we are still together now.

We have been talking for a long time about having a child together, the truth is I really want a child with my partner but I am worried because of my age and the risks involved when being pregnant in your 40's.

My partner has tried reassuring me that it will be fine. I'm just concerned.

My partner is 30 and I am 42.

I would appreciate any advice or anyone's personal experiences with being pregnant in their 40's.

Thank you xoxo

I had my DD2 the week before I was 43. Conceived naturally but had two MC before I fell pregnant with her. Pregnancy was fine, although I was anxious having had MCs for the first 12 weeks until scanned. Was under consultant care due to age, be prepared for being called a geriatric mother, I kid you not. Was induced at term and DD2 born without complications. Well apart from it all happening very fast and DH only just making it on time to see her being born.

Well, the first thing is that you'd need to be able to get pregnant and the chances of that are dropping month by month, while the chances of you miscarrying if you do are rising. (Then if you do, by the time you're able to try again, you're a few months older).

So, if you want to try, go for it, now.

Yes, there are some increased risks to you and the baby but those can mostly be tested for and managed or decisions made. The bigger question is whether you can conceive and carry a pregnancy.

I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my second at 45, had my first when I was 40.
Both conceived naturally and pregnancy going well so far!
I'd second that if you want to try for a baby then get going as the chances are pretty slim at our age but you just never know!
Good luck!

I am almost 32 weeks with no2. I'll have just turned 43 when I give birth. I had my first child at 41.
I got pregnant quickly and easily both times and there have been no health issues as yet.
I would even consider going for a third after this, however my husband doesn't want to push our luck!
