Baby blues

Hi everyone

I've been told to expect the baby blues but not much else, I'm currently day 5 PP and I just want to go to bed and cry, no reason but yet every reason.

Is this normal, does it go away?

It is normal, you are still full of hormones and probably devoid of sleep. You will be tired and yes it does go away.

It is very normal and It does go away! Depending on how much sleep you are having, you could have a few odd days like this for a couple of weeks.

It’s a huge adjustment and hormones are all over the place. My baby is 4 weeks old and I would say I’ve had maybe 4 days like this in total.

I had it first time, around 5 days pp and I couldn’t explain why I was so emotional but I remember thinking I missed being pregnant because now I have to share him!

Just have a cold old cry and know you will feel better tomorrow. Congratulations on baby!

*good

Absolutely normal for the first 2 weeks. Its to di with the massive hormonal changes. If it's really bad or lasts longer than a fortnight then talk to your HV or GP.

Mybobowler · 10/05/2020 14:34

What @tableclothing said - it is totally normal BUT if it goes on for more than a week or two, or if it's causing you a lot of distress in the meantime, speak to your midwife or HV.

Thank you all, reassuring to know it doesn't last forever.

Just feeling super alone which I know I'm not, hopefully tomorrow is a better day!

Hope you're okay OP.

This hit me hard and it was awful but 10 weeks old now and feel much more in control and happier. Your confidence will come and you'll be able to laugh about silly things. About 3-4 days old, DS pooed himself. I ran out of wipes so had to take him upstairs with me to get more but in that time he weed all over himself and me and I literally had a meltdown of panic thinking I'd hurt him carrying him about to the point I was nearly hyperventilating and crying.

DP had to go back to work at 4 days old so I remember lots of early days just crying and crying, even locking myself in the bathroom thinking about how awful it was to feel so out of control and life changed, despite having a much loved and wanted baby. The sleep deprivation plus lack of baby instructions (!) is awful but you soon learn what baby wants and just go with it.

Keep an eye on how you feel and don't forget you need time to rest and heal too so take help if you can.

Locking myself in bathroom when DP was with baby I must clarify, never left him alone, still won't now 😂
