Birth and lockdown

My baby is due soon and I'm having a homebirth. My OH will be my birthing partner. Today we discussed about what we will do with my children if there is an emergency/I need to go to hospital.
We looked it up and from what we can understand children can go to another friend or family member providing of course they are not in the vulnerable category and have also been socially isolating. So we have decided to ask my mum who lives nearby if she could be "on standby."
Is this allowed? I know I will have to make it explicit to her that it is for emergency childcare only.

Are you using a private midwife then?

Nicknamegoeshere · 09/05/2020 01:00

Yes. Unfortunately my Trust has suspended so no chance of an NHS hb unless I move a little further up the road to a neighbouring Trust! @Rosskemp why the question?

Home births aren't allowed in our trust. Have you got an Independent midwife?

Nicknamegoeshere · 09/05/2020 01:03

@bloated1977 Yes, see above Smile

I was just curious.

Do you mind if I ask how payment for the private midwife service works?

I think your plan re childcare is absolutely fine

@rossKemp As she only picked me up from 32-ish weeks she didn't charge us full amount - it's £2,500 in total including antenatal and postnatal care. I have been incredibly impressed so far.

Hi @Nicknamegoeshere I guess it’s entirely up to you and your parents to consider the risk of moving between houses! Maybe ask your parents to be extra vigilant in the week or so leading up to the due date? It really depends if you want them there at the birth or not, or you’re just talking about emergencies. After 1 child, the transfer % of people to hospital is really low so it would be unlikely anyway. It’s hard I know. I’m 38 wks!!

Fortunately for me Homebirth being actively encouraged in our area! So I feel really lucky.
