VBAC as a plan B?

I had an EMCS with #1 due to breech presentation. Spinal failed and got through high on G&A refusing a general anesthetic. I toyed with the idea of a VBAC but have come to the decision of prefer an ELCS but now my mind had turned to the issues with my first section.

Does anyone know if I could plan for an elective section but if I was to go in on the day and it failed then opt out of it and attempt a VBAC? Would this be something a consultant would be likely to agree on? I know if you go into labour before a scheduled section you have the option but not sure how it would work this way?
