Sweep- what are my chances

Currently 39+2
first sweep 48 hours ago. Baby 3/5 engaged (first baby). Cervix 2cm long and closed at the top.

2nd sweep today. cervix 1.5cm long and 2cm dilated. Midwife could touch membranes and baby's head. She thought lots of mucous plug already lost even though I hadn't noticed. This afternoon, I've lost a little more mucous - seen on wiping. I've had some painless tightenings and baby feels low.

I've been bouncing lots in my birthing ball and walking everyday. Next sweep in 48 hours.. what are my changes of going into labour soon?!! Xx

I think that all sounds encouraging but I'd stop trying to get things started with endless bouncing and spend time getting as much sleep as you can.

Good luck I hope you have your beautiful baby soon Thanks

Thank you! I really hope so! X

I read that when your baby’s lungs are fully developed they release a substance called surfectant into the amniotic fluid and this is one of the main triggers of labour.

When I realised that it really helped me chill out about birth happening because I wanted Dd to have perfect lungs!

I had my sweep at 39+4 and drove home having contractions, I think they work if you're ready.

I agree with the above poster. I had 4 in the lead up to my induction and I think I dilated an extra half a centimetre. But I was induced a week early, it was my first baby and my body just wasn’t ready.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I really thought things were starting to happen on Sunday - the day after my second sweep. Lost mucus plus, lots of tightenings and period like pain. It's all settled again since yesterday afternoon.

I have my third sweep later today but I'm not holding out much hope now. I think we're on baby's schedule- i just don't want to have to have an induction xxx

I am also 39+2, had no intervention yet. Nothing seems to be happening either. I'm just hanging around at home, waiting, and eating cake

I had another sweep today. Now fully effaced, 2cm dilated- she stretched me to 3cm and pullled my cervix forward a little. Losing mucous plug continues.....but still waiting! @Caspianberg waiting and being patient is so hard!! X

Sounds positive!

I was induced at 0cm & cervix nowhere to be seen so very jealous of the great numbers you've got there! Not long now :)
