Has anyone had a C.S. at Lewisham over the last year or so?

If so, can you tell me - were you allowed to have both your new baby (so you could start feeding/bonding etc) AND your partner in the recovery room with you or did you have to chose only one person. I was going to go to Queen Elisabeth Hospital Woolwich but am now concerned about their crazy recovery policy of having only dh OR the baby in recovery so may try to change if Lewisham is less unreasonable. I just can't understand how hospitals can draw up such policies and then claim to support breast feeding!

Hi MrsFogi - I cant help with the answer to your question, but as a midwife I find that policy at QE downright bizarre. Did you get it from the hospital itself or by word of mouth? It doesnt seem right somehow - might be worth phoning up the labour ward (if thats where theatre is located) and ask for clarification.

Is the baby supposed to wait in the waiting room while your husband visits you???

Never heard such nonsense in my life. If its true then I dont blame you for changing hospitals!!!!

Sounds truely truely bizarre!!
Incredible that they think your new baby will wait in the waiting room while your dh nips in to say Hi

I'm obviously feeling a little tired because I'm laughing at the thought of you turning to your new lo and saying OK darling just nip outside whilst I tell Daddy the things need him to bring in....!! And what are they going to do, tell db off for not getting out quickly enough

I know what the QEH policy is because I had to endure it after an emergency c.s. with dd1 - "now mrsf you can only have one person in the recovery room with you, would you like that to be dd1, dh or someone else?"!!!!! It seems it is still in place as I've checked with the a-n midwives who confirmed it + a friend had a c.s. there a couple of months ago and had to make the choice!

FWIW my SIL had first dc in lewisham and would recommend the ammenity rooms (only about 35 pounds a night I think) if you can get/afford one). SHe didn't have cs but hasn't anything bad to say about it (don't know about food)!

From what I remember - it was two years ago, DH went off with the baby to and staff to get DS cleaned, weighed etc, then both of them came into the recovery room and I fed DS while DH cooed over us both! Ridiculous to suggest that only one or the other can come in! HTH's

Bumping this as I've just been in to discuss the policy at QEH and they won't budge!
