Hi all,

Exactly what the subject is - I'm craving chocolate after giving birth..is this normal?! I used to like chocolate every now and then before falling pregnant and during pregnancy. But I now seem to have some everyday! Has anyone else experienced this?! X

Some say there is a small link between craving chocolate and iron deficiency. Dark chocolate is a ok source of iron apparently but not milk chocolate.

It will obviously come as no surprise you may need a slight increase in iron post birth.

I craved Nutella on toast it's all I ate for days and the GP said the above to me .

@SeperatedSwans that's interesting! I was anaemic during pregnancy and lost a bit of blood during delivery so what you're saying makes sense! Thank you x

I have five children. From the beginning of each pregnancy I couldn't touch chocolate but as soon as the baby arrived it was the only thing I wanted every time. The first two babies I lost a huge amount of blood and required transfusions but no excuses for the last three.

I felt so nauseous from the jabs you have to have for 10 days then I didn't straight away, but after a few weeks yes! It's all I wanted hah, that's interesting about the iron link, I stopped my iron tablets around that time (aneamic as well during pregnancy and PPH). It did pass, I am sure it will for you too but just enjoy it for now!

Absolutely. Breastfeeding makes me crave sugary foods like never before.

The midwife said chocolate should be prescribed to new mums because of the cravings so you’re not alone!
