Pethidine?

Hi all,

Currently in hospital in early labour with second baby. Waters broke 11pm and contractions coming pretty regularly but quick/not unbearable yet. Admitted me to antenatal ward but am only 1cm.

They've just said my DH can't stay in this area with me (he can only come to labour ward itself) so he is sat in the waiting room or may go home.

Midwife suggested pethidine to speed things up/help with pain etc, but when I took it last labour I was SO out of it. Couldn't stand/go to loo without help, totally knocked out for a few hours. Feel worried to do that without someone next to me. It sped labour up and probably took me right to the point of being ready to push but that took long enough that I was fully with it enough to remember the birth.

If second labours tend to be faster is it risky to take it and end up being half drugged during the birth itself? Anyone has positive or negative experiences?!

I had it in my first labour and didn't experience anything you have mentioned. Maybe a smaller dose?

Good luck!
