How should I feel after stitches for a second degree tear?

I had my baby very recently and I had stitches for a second degree tear. My midwife did describe it as a 'superficial' second degree tear but the stitching itself I think took about 45 mins - does that sound long? Since then I've felt sore and bruised but I also feel a lot of pressure - is this normal? What did you feel when you were recovering from stitches? Thanks!

How recently was it? I had my baby on Monday and a second degree tear. Monday and Tuesday the area was very swollen and sore, couldn't sit down or get up easily and car journey was very uncomfortable. Wednesday it was much less swollen, still tender to touch but could wipe with a damp flannel gently. Now Friday and the swelling has gone down almost completely. I had a good prod around just to feel where the stitches were etc, not much pain at all. I get an occasional twinge if I sit down wrong and "tug" one of the ends. If you're not happy with it ask a midwife to take a look at your next appointment or phone them for advice
