C section

Hi All,

I'm having a C section on Friday.
Just wondered if they are now sending people home much quicker after the procedure due to the Coronavirus risks etc?

Anyone recently had a C section and know?

Following as my c section also booked for Friday.

I think with a c section it's still same 24 hours then home u will have catherta in for 12 hours then u have to pass a certain amount of urine and get out of bed walk ect so think it will still be 24 hours minimum then home it's major surgery

I was able to leave 12 hours after, as I was up and about and had passed enough urine. This was before the current crisis though

I had baby at 12noon got out about 8pm next day. I had to go home with a catheter in, whole other story about how the midwives made me overfill my bladder and damaged it. I still got out, they wanted to keep me in but after a first traumatic birth where I was in for 6 days I refused and they let me go home.

@Shelby30 How did they make you overfill you’re bladder? Just asking because I had to go home with a catheter last time and I really want to avoid that now

So they left me for nearly 11hrs before they took it out. I hadn't been to sleep for 2 days coz waters broke late at night so I was absolutely knackered. I had pestered them to get it out for hours. Went to toilet and nothing 😕 so they left it out for 6 hrs. After that they made me go again in the middle of night now. Still nothing. Then they pestered me all night bringing jug after jug of water and telling me to drink or I wouldn't get home. I really wanted home so I drank and drank.

So come 6/7am I still couldn't go and was about to burst. It had been out for 7/8hrs. When they put it bk in so much fluid came out. The doctor came to see and said they had taken 1.5litres as soon as they put it bk in. Therefore my bladder had been over filled and she wanted the catheter bk in for 48hrs at least to give my bladder a rest. She said the midwives should not have made me drink so much and they caused it to happen 😕 They kept saying if I was desperate to pee I'd be able to go but she said that was bad advice as your bladder goes through so much anyway in pregnancy and can get easily damaged. First time I had a section I was fine after so maybe just unlucky this time.

Mine was booked for 38+6 but went into labour a day early so had a cat 2 emergency one instead. The more you drink the quicker they take the catheter out. I started to feel tingling and some sensation in my legs whilst in recovery. Got back to the ward around 6-am, drank loads, got the feeling back in my legs and had catheter out and was able to walk to the toilet within 5 hours. Then home within 24. I was really worried I would be stuck in hospital for ages and DD wasn’t allowed to visit and no other family either due to the restrictions but managed to get home ASAP. I do think everyone’s recovery is completely different though. Just a tip - keep on top of pain relief, I didn’t take any for a while because I felt ok then the pain suddenly kicked in.
