Hurt my back, how to reduce pain?

I got a shopping delivery yesterday and somehow have hurt my back bringing it into the house. It's not a new pain it's something I've had before and it also causes referred pain to the front where my stomach is but on the inside (hard to describe). At 39 + 4 pregnant I'm guessing I can only take paracetamol (which doesn't touch it) I've tried a very warm bath and hot water bottle but I could hardly sleep last night and was in tears this morning. At first I let myself think maybe it was the start of labour but its too high up, too familiar and isn't following a pattern just hurts all the time. Anyone got any tips for dodgy backs?

Hi Sprite!

I found I got horrific sciatic pain whenever I did ‘too much’ of anything (basically any normal house hold or living activities) and also found paracetamol didn’t even touch the agonising pain. Obviously it would be good to speak to your midwife about the pain but after a week in bed, feeling like I was actually dying, I hunted around for some easy stretches and after watching nearly every single video on YouTube, I found two that actually worked!

I did both stretches every hour on the hour for a day and by the next day I could walk again (yes, I had some pain) and I continued for a few days more and I was fine!

One video is by mindful mamas raising two tigers called stretch exercises to relieve sciatic pain and the other was by Johnson’s Baby Uk called Pre- natal yoga - 2nd and 3rd trimester: modified pigeon pose.

They’re short, sweet and quite similar but both can be done anywhere. Would highly recommend and I hope your pain goes away soon!

@Pregnantbam thanks for giving advice to @sprite25 - I found that video so helpful! What an easy stretch and it nipped my overly tight “bum” after just a few goes! Also appreciate having a new person to follow on you tube....I’m finding myself toggling between news and MN and both are probably limiting my world right now 🤪
