Labour...?

Finding it so hard to know if I'm actually having contractions or not, varied in length from 30-50 seconds every 3-4 minutes but have only just woken me up so could have been going on a bit longer, currently only been going on for 30 mins ish. It feels like a wave coming and my uterus goes hard, pain mostly lower down. Then goes. But no back pain which I've read most people get? Ahhhh! Any ideas please?

Sounds promising!

In my experience, if you’re not sure, it’s not it!

As soon as my contractions started they were very strong, painful and regular. Absolutely no mistaking what it was.

Sexnotgender · 06/03/2020 07:19

Sounds like something is happening. Probably early labour. Ignore and breath through it and try and get on with your day. Good luckFlowers

With my second I was convinced I wasnt in labour right up until the midwife examined me and told me I was 5cm. The contractions were all around the bottom of my bump, and I could talk through them so figured it was latent phase not full labour.

It sounds like something is happening though, fingers crossed for squishy newborn cuddles soon.

Fab, thank you all🤗

Hope you're nearly there!

I woke up at 05.15am with cramps but wasn't sure. Got up and got on with my day, shower etc but they started to get worse as the day went on. Was more of a sharp horrible wave in my bum than belly so different things for different people 🤞
Went into hospital at 5cm and he was born in just over 2 hours later

js30 · 06/03/2020 09:43

Wowee @SparkleUK that was so quick!!! I'd love it if that happened, unfortunately mine are still really irregular but they're definitely getting more painful as the morning goes on! Thank you for the positive messages always really appreciated 🤗

Mine were both born premature so I don't know if it's comparable, but with DD1 I woke up at 3am having stomach pains. I was only 28 weeks so didn't assume it was contractions. I waited until 5.30 to call labour ward, got to the hospital at 6am. I was examined at 7am and I was fully dilated.

With DD2, I started having contractions on the Monday night. They eased off but happened every night until the Thursday when they carried on through the night and got stronger on the Friday morning. When I was seen at the hospital, I was less than 1cm dilated. They actively slowed down labour to give me steroid injections and she was born on the Sunday.

With DD1 it was 4 hours from first mild contraction to delivery, and DD2 it was nearly a week.

What I'm trying to say is that it could go either way. I hope it doesn't drag on too long for you.

I disagree with the poster saying about once you have them there is no mistaking. I had them for about 8 hours before my waters broke and they were more than manageable, like period pains...i just relaxed at home..once my waters broke however there was no mistaking them haha

SparkleUK · 06/03/2020 09:57

It was so quick - pushing stage was only 23 minutes 😂

Bless you, the pain is a good thing even though it doesn't feel it! Mine started irregular too, they'd have a pattern and then they'd go a while without but when they came back they'd be more painful.
Wishing you all the best and hope you get to meet baby soon ❤️

lucie8881 · 06/03/2020 10:03

I've never experienced any back pain with any of my labours, sounds like things are starting up, exciting!

All the best x

BarleyG · 06/03/2020 21:14

All my pain was in my outer thighs with my first labour. I was in total denial until I arrived at hospital and was told I was 9cm! Good luck! I’m 41 weeks today and no sign Hmm

js30 · 06/03/2020 22:17

@BarleyG oh no! Hope something starts happening soon! Mines ramped up so hopefully will keep going and we can go to hospital soon! X
