Second Time Labour

I had a horrendous first birth (physically fine but was traumatic - syntocin drip with no pain relief).

Please tell me about your second births/deliveries!

100 million x better. First had a PPROM, labour 22 hours, really struggled with pain, had pethadine so was away with the fairies, episiotomy, stitches, some incontinence post birth (resolved thankfully).

Second 4 hours start to finish, beautiful water birth no pain relief needed, tiny graze needing no stitching and recovered virtually immediately. I couldn’t believe it and hadnt really believed when everyone said the second would be much better.

Good luck!

Compared to number one it was a million times better. A whole different experience & just what I'd hoped for first time round.

First induced as waters broke but labour didn't start, hooked up to drip, long second stage resulting in failed ventouse, forceps & a 3b tear. He's perfect & I healed fine so consider myself to be very fortunate.

Second contractions started overnight at home, went to hospital at 8.30am & was 4-5cm, jumped (alright, not quite jumped!) in the pool & stayed there until she arrived underwater at 4.15 in the afternoon. Gas & air & my 'perfect' labour.

It's impossible to say how it'll go second time round but I hope you have the same difference in experience as I did Smile

I had a horrible long induction for my first birth.

Second was a couple of hours of wondering if it was real contractions or BH then baby born before we made it into the hospital!

I had a pretty similar experience both times although 2nd was faster.
1st was maybe 12hrs of irregular contractions, waters went, 2hrs later dd had been born in water, gas & air with a 3b tear.
2nd time maybe 6hrs of irregular contractions, waters went in the car on the way to hospital, was only in the pool 2 minutes before ds appeared. 3a tear no pain relief.

My 2nd was a much nicer feeling though. I was more confident on the postnatal ward so handled the night better, was up and about after surgery faster. Plus it wasn’t Xmas like with my first.
