Planned c section

I've had a letter with a date for my pre op but I haven't had a date for the section yet.
Does anyone know how long before the section they do the pre op?
This is my 3rd section but first planned.

Me pre-op was a week before the section. They'll normally do them as close to 39 weeks as possible I think? So when I had my last one I was 39+1

Staceywaceywooo · 29/02/2020 17:27

Yeh I was told they would do it at 39 weeks but I'll be 37 on the pre op date so my guessing is they're doing it at 38?!

That's weird. They 'shouldn't' do it pre 39 weeks unless there's a clinical need. And the pre-op bloods need to be within a week of the section (or at least they donate my hospital). Hmmmm

Tableclothing · 29/02/2020 17:40

I effectively had 2 pre-OP.

1 a week before, where they asked a load of questions and gave me antibacterial shower gel.
1 the day before, where they asked all the same questions and did bloods.

Staceywaceywooo · 29/02/2020 17:47

@paradyning I know. I only saw my consultant on Wednesday and she told me they don't do it before 39. Suppose I'll just wait for the phone call with my section date.

@Tableclothing ah right. I've never been given the shower gel before. Seeing as this is my 3rd section it's all new to me this time 🙈

I had my elective c section at 37 weeks and my pre-op was the day before. I was told my hospital only did pre-ops a maximum of 48 hours before and if I ended up bumped by a couple of days, I would need another pre-op.

I’m surprised you don’t have a date yet.

Staceywaceywooo · 29/02/2020 17:56

@WinterCat oh really.
I was told on Wednesday that someone would call me with a date for the section and then I've had a letter today for a pre op.
I had my little boy at 37 weeks but that was emergency c section after failed induction.

I have just had my CS booked for 39+1 and the Oreos was scheduled at the same time, for two days earlier.

This is my third CS. My previous prelims have been 2 days before scheduled CS date too.

Mummylanie3 · 29/02/2020 18:05

I saw my consultant at 29 weeks she gave me my c section date for bang on 39weeks and my pre op for day before

Staceywaceywooo · 29/02/2020 18:26

@HappyAsASandboy @Mummylanie3
This is why I'm confused cos the pre op will be done at 37 weeks

@Staceywaceywooo I would have thought they would have given u a date when u saw consultant then pre op date after as pre op is usually done just before any surgery to check for infection and illness they don't usually do them far in advance as things can change with your health maybe ring them Monday say you have recieved a pre op letter but no date for actual section it may be worded wrong and that appointment at 37 weeks is your consultation to then give u date for section and pre op

Staceywaceywooo · 29/02/2020 19:13

@Mummylanie3 Maybe. Just strange that I was told on Wednesday that someone would be calling me with a section date and was told that if I didn't have a date in the next 4 weeks to mention it at my next consultant appointment which is 25th March.

My pre-op is the day before mine.

Consultant said they could do it a couple of days before 39 weeks but I would need steroids so better to have it at 39 or more.

ClubfootMaestro · 29/02/2020 19:16

Should say I have had an appointment for my pre-op but not received anything for my section. I only know because I was there when consultant booked it or I’d be none the wiser.

DameSylvieKrin · 29/02/2020 19:17

Might depend on why you are having a planned section. Mine was several weeks before as I had vasa previa and placenta previa and needed particular planning that ideally would be done in case I came in with bleeding and needed an emergency section.

Bol87 · 29/02/2020 22:45

My hospital do pre-ops on the Thursday before your section. It’s a special clinic. So sections on Mon-Thursday will have pre-ops the week before. Sections Friday-Sunday will have pre-ops a few days before. My section is on a Friday, so I’m getting my pre-op the day before.

I did get told my section date & pre-op date on the same letter. Might be worth a call to double check!

Bol87 · 29/02/2020 22:45

*my section is at 39 weeks

Staceywaceywooo · 03/03/2020 15:02

I've tried calling the number on my letter but I need an extension number and I haven't got one. I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow so maybe she can call someone 🤷🏻‍♀️
