can anyone recommend a hypnobirthing CD (or course thereof) - I don't fancy classes, but wouldn't mind giving the techniques a go.

I have the CD that came with the book HypnoBirthing - The Mongan Method (3rd Edition 2005). TBH its not very good, too short and sort of an overview rather than a course guide. I'm sure there are good ones out there. The book is good though, it came from Amazon.

The hypnobabies home study program is supposed to be very good, but I don't know if they ship to the UK.

Hello,
I bought the Mongan book, which is good, i liked just teh sheer sensibleness of being told that your body is designed for birthing a baby. I then got the cds for Natal Hypnobirthing, they do various different sets depending on if you are VBAC, expecting twins etc etc. So far, so good, but the relaxation techniques must be VERY good, as I have fallen asleep during each cd, so actually have no idea what's at the end of them! Seeing as I'm due next week, I'd better pay more attention...

I would recommend the natal hypnotherapy CD by Maggie Howell. I listened to the birth preparation CD every day from 33 weeks and found it really helped to relax me. I also used the relaxing birth music CD during the birth. I used both with an open mind, not really sure that they would have any effect but something seemed to kick in during the labour and I'm sure both the suggestions on the preparation CD and music (designed to act as triggers for the suggestions on the preparation CD) helped me relax. You can buy the CDs online. Good luck!

Hypnobabies do ship to the UK, and they have a handy yahoo forum as well where you can share any queries or concerns. My home study pack arrived in about 10 days - if you do order it, ask them to send it by United States Postal Service and NOT UPS (which costs a fortune!). So far, I'm enjoying the CDs - seem to sleep through the whole thing excet the first five minutes!
