Induction with dilapran?

Has anyone had any experience of an induction with dilapran and can let me know how it went? Due to previous rapid labour, they're reluctant to induce me with pessary as could potentially cause me to over contract. Dilapran is a mechanical rather than chemical induction where rods are inserted to absorb moisture in the cervix like a tampon and they slowly open the cervix as they expand. Hopefully then kick starting labour naturally. It's fairly new and I can find very few real life experiences of it when I have been researching...

Very interested to also hear experiences of this. Due to be induced with rods in 4 days.

@chuffoff today my midwife said it's inserted in the evening and then you sleep with it for 12hrs. Your cervix has to be favourable otherwise they won't be able to insert them. It's a no drug method.

Ah ok, thank you. Did she mention if you have to stay at hospital or can you go home to sleep with them in?

Everything else I've read about it is that you end up going on the drip anyway...which is what I really wanted to avoid.

Hi @pinksquash13 my induction with dilapran is set for Friday and feeling a lot more reassured about it after speaking to my consultant today. I'm already 1-2cm dilated so they shouldn't have a problem with getting the rods inserted then as long as they do the trick I can have my waters broken on labour ward and then get transferred to the low risk unit to labour in water which is what I'm really keen on. I'm lucky that we have a midwife-led unit next to the labour ward at our hospital. If you haven't had your baby already, good luck tomorrow!
