Postpartum poops

Sorry, TMI!

I have birth 11 days ago and I've pooped maybe 3 or 4 times but over the last few days I've been struggling to go. It feels like there's something there but I'm really scared to 'push'. I've tried taking a laxative and it made me feel the need to go but again, I feel like I need to push quite hard. Should I have bought stool softeners instead? Luckily never had this problem before so I'm a bit of a no-poop-novice

Any home remedies? I've tried prune juice, dates and fresh fruit but it's not doing much. Pharmacy doesn't open for 5 hours so I'm a sitting duck until then!

Try holding a folded piece of toilet paper in between your vagina and anus, to help that muscle contract, then push a bit. I always did this with every pregnancy, it's just a bit more difficult at the start because the muscles have been through so much.

But, yes, continue to eat as you do, drink more, eat a lot of whole foods and you should get things moving back there.

Get a glycerin suppository and use that - it sort of forces you to go even if you try to fight it (I had to use it when I had a fissure as it was so painful I couldn’t bear to push). Also, it will stop you straining which is really important for your pelvic floor postpartum. Good luck!
